Meanwhile, on the internet, people are feverishly working on "We don’t talk about Jada" songs..

And "White Men Can't Jump" Also, I just knew Travolta was going to dance again. I don't recall any other time when he presented at the Oscars when he didn't do that twist if only for a few seconds. The three of them presenting was also one of the worst parts of the evening for me. I still think Amy was the best. Save for the Spider-Man bit.

And the whole incident kind of pissed all over "Summer of Soul"'s win and Questlove's genuinely emotional speech.

Yeah, I was disgusted by the standing ovation. And his acceptance speech where he was somehow justifying his behavior.

Maybe this belongs in the Unpopular Opinion Thread: Will Smith was out of line smacking Chris Rock. And his speech/justification afterward makes me think he's a stupid asshole.

But at the same time, I recognized at a young age you don't say things about a guy's wife. This wasn't them at a party, where they're all goofing around. He made fun of her appearance, in front of an audience of hundreds of acquaintances and strangers, as well as on TV before millions. If you do that and the wife truly feels hurt or humiliated, you can't be shocked when the husband has a reaction you weren't expecting.

To paraphrase Chris Rock's own joke about OJ murdering Nichole: I'm not saying he should have smacked him... But I understand.

So far I haven’t seen a post show interview yet from Smith. They are slowly coming down on Variety’s YouTube channel. I wonder if his publicist tells him to skip it.

Was it in poor taste? Yes. But we're not talking couple dedicated to one another here. They have an open relationship that both finally admitted to after years of gossip. Even one of the female hosts made a joke about that earlier but somehow she got a pass.

This whole thing is so insane on so many levels. Did Chris Rock even write the joke? Also fair bet Rock has made previous jokes about Will and Jada. Like what is the full history there.

How do you just pretend that didn't happen? Standing ovation? What?

So you wanted him to smack the shit out of the female presenter? Okay then.

Some people seem to be taking the concept of "defending" a little too far. It's not like Rock was beating up on Jada, or physically attacking her in any way. THAT would be grounds for being justifiably defended. Being butthurt because someone told a joke, no matter how poor in taste, is not, and will never be, an excuse for assaulting someone. Smith was out of line, period.

? He didn't joke about their relationship, he made a comment about her appearance. I don't have to root for one of them, I can think they're both a couple of bozos.

That was nuts. And while it was in poor taste, and not at all a funny joke, the physical reaction was beyond the pale.

Since Will was at the very front of the room, I just wish one of the subsequent winners would have thrown up their hands to protect themselves in a "don't hit me" gesture as they walked past him.

Happy for the CODA win.

I thought Rock just meant Jada was ripped like Demi Moore was in GI Jane.

I'm sure Smith and Rock will patch things up and it will all be forgotten. Meanwhile the Oscars will probably love it with the "Watch - who knows what will happen??" to get more viewership next year.

This is Hollywood. Hell, they attack each other personally much worse at a roast.. Smith behavior was a deplorable display of unprofessionalism and pure rage. It was a dumbass move too in an industry where your paycheck depends on public perception. Just ask Kevin Spacey, once a darling of the Oscars. Guess Will can now join him and Bruce in the direct to video junk heap now.

I beg to differ. You can be shocked. Everyone was shocked. In fact if it was someone who wasn’t Will Smith I think the defenders would disappear. Again I can understand why he was mad, but he just strolls right on stage, slaps him, then strolls right back to his seat. I don’t think security even reacted at all.

And even if there’s more going on behind the scenes or he’s just emotionally charged he HAS to apologize for the slap during his acceptance speech. Even if he didn’t mean it. That might have been even more shocking to me.

I think it would have been saved if the item in the briefcase had been the Oscar that Jackson won Friday night. It would have given the audience the opportunity to applaud for his honor, and would have made the "reunion" about Travolta and Thurman supporting their co-star.

I'm saying there's gotta be some history between them. Like previous jokes by Chris Rock during standup about Will and Jada's open relationship.

Here it is: When Chris Rock hosted the Oscars in 2016 he talked shit about both Jada and Will in his monologue.

I'd be willing to bet a lot that Rock made that comment spontaneously when he looked out and saw bald Jada at the front of the audience.

And here's some:

"Apparently when the whole thing was going on with Oscars being so white and Will and Jada saying they won't attend, Chris Rock said no one invited them."
This was the joke back in 2016:

“Jada Pinkett Smith boycotting the Oscars is like me boycotting Rihanna’s panties: I wasn’t invited”
