That's a good way to put it. I like that.

I realised I donít think Iíve ever seen Kiss Of The Spider Woman. Might need to remedy that tonight.

For me Kiss of the Spider Woman is his greatest performance. He was also great in A History of Violence and Ken Russell's batshit crazy Altered States.

Recently saw him in Goliath. I'm also surprised he was only 71.

RIP

Loved him in Mr Brooks. Too bad they didn't do the trilogy that was meant for it and could have had Hurt in all of them.

FWIW, The Hollywood Reporter lead their story by noting the same decade of dominance that I did :
William Hurt, the exacting Oscar winner who dominated a decade as few other actors have done with his turns in the 1980s classics Body Heat, Kiss of the Spider Woman, Children of a Lesser God and Broadcast News, has died. He was 71.

Thatís a good point. Itís hard for a lot of actors to play really smart professionals in a believable way. You kind of have to exude intelligence, which is hard to fake. He and Jody Foster were always the two best IMO.

For sure. Kind of unfair she was asked about him on the red carpet yesterday, which she handled probably as best as she could.

I wouldn't say he's one of my favorite actors, but he gave great performances, in a lot of good movies.

Allegedly.

I think the MCU had some big future plans for his Thunderbolt Ross character, i.e. Red Hulk.

Can anyone post a link to a good summary of the allegations here?

Not that I followed the daily life of William Hurt but I had never heard that story either. It sounds like Hurt never really disputed Matlinís claims and he had another ex who made similar allegations toward him. Itís sounds like he was a real POS.

Too bad because his characters always seemed like they had their act together and could stay calm and collected under pressure. I guess he wasnít like that in real life.

You can see the bruises on Maitlin's legs in Children of a Lesser God and he didn't deny the allegations. He seems like he was a real shit.

That was a bad period but he was young on drugs and matured and cleaned up his act since no other stories like that happened again I hope.

Another victim comes forward. Of course she did so years ago, but of course no consequences for him.

Re: William Hurt dead at 71

Geez thatís three partners all detailing stories of physical abuse. He was a real piece of shit. I had no idea and will never think of him in the same light again.
Heartbreaking because man I loved his work in the 80s. Just watched a long-forgotten lesser 80s film of his on Amazon Prime, Gorky Park, and heís great in it as well.

Not that it in anyway excuses it, but maybe it was drugs? Wonder if he ever straightened out his personal life. Wikipedia doesnít really say.
