Favorite cameo by a director in their own movie?

Re: Favorite cameo by a director in their own movie?
I know Hitchcock is known for his cameos and some of them are fine (I particularly like the one in Lifeboat) but man, some of those are way too obvious and pull you right out of the movie. Shit, there’s a couple where the camera actually pans over to him and then pans back.
For most of those cameos, if that was an extra doing the mugging, he would have been pulled out of the scene.

I know Peter Jackson cameo'd in Dead Alive (A.K.A. Braindead). I'll be honest, The Lord of the Rings isn't my genre. Don't get me wrong, I have great respect for the franchise. Never trashed it. I just prefer a different cup of tea. Lets put it that way. The fantasy genre just doesn't do it for me. But I would sit down and watch them if I was around people that told me to watch it with them.

I don't know about "favorite", but Kurt Wimmer briefly appears as one of the rebels in Equilibrium.
