Re: Movie Theaters
I worked for them, and they are largely why I am no longer in the theater business. All the major chains are bad though. I don’t know why so many people in the business don’t love it.

Re: Movie Theaters
This bankruptcy filing likely means that some of the smaller Regal chains with less traffic will likely be shut down to save money.

Cineworld, the owner of Regal, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.
It doesn't mean the chain is closing. It means they have massive debt and need to re-organize. It probably didn't help Regal that aside from Top Gun and Jurassic World, this summer has been pretty slow. And of course the losses they took during 2020 and early 2021.

Is that still a good idea?

If your local Regal is a big multiplex in a big entertainment, restaurant shopping center and appears to be busy, then sure I don't see why not. Regal allows you to commit for only 90 days to test it out.

Re: Movie Theaters
My favorite local mom & pop just posted that they're participating. They are usually $8 so the price differential isn't as big as AMC premium screen. Regular popcorn is $5.
Hmmmm AMC has Jaws IMAX. Earliest showing is 3pm, which is late for me but I might make it work. They're also showing Jaws 3D but I don't do that stupid shit. They still have Top Gun Maverick but just regular digital.
Might hit both theaters.

I took the kids to the Invitation.
15 bucks for 5 tickets.
I also got a large popcorn and 2 large sodas for 9 bucks. I had to wait forever for the concessions though. I was in the concession line for at least a half hour, and got into the movie about 15 minutes late (that's 15 minutes into the runtime, not 15 minutes into the trailers I had them seated before the trailers). I let the kids sit in the theater as soon as we got there and I waited in line for concessions. I would have skipped them all together, but my youngest complained when I mentioned it.
Movie was meh, but the kids liked it.

Double post from Hot Deals:
Saw Spider-Man and it was full of the most obnoxious kids on the planet. I'm glad I had already seen it before and was trying to focus on the new scenes. I guess with $3 tickets that's cheaper than the baby sitter. I will never complain about ticket prices again

Cineworld, the owner of Regal, officially filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in the U.S.
Again, this doesn’t mean they are dead and closing. Businesses have emerged from bankruptcy, but they have to get their financial situation resolved. Probably means layoffs and closing some slower theaters.

I’ve only been to theaters a few times since Covid changed everything. I’ve still been paying $20 at home. I was going to see Clerks and maybe Pearl. So I looked around and had no idea so many Phoenix theaters closed.

It looks like since their Chapter 11 announcement, they've quietly closed down theaters this week.
Even more than I initially posted about.

Regal is showing a $5 mystery movie next Monday of an upcoming new release.
According to the Regal site it’s Rated R and 140 minutes. I wonder what it could be. Anyone here live near a Regal and interested?

I had a $5 Fandango credit and went for it. The one showing is about 50% full in my area.
