Re: Movie Theaters

In checking times at the local theater here, it seems that the first showing is at noon, but I could have sworn that they used to open earlier. Otherwise, the times seem to be the same.

The theater experience sort of lost me a long time ago. As my collection grew and my home theater improved, I saw less and less reason to go, especially because there aren't much of any screens here for anything beyond Hollywood blockbusters. And while this isn't the popular opinion, those Hollywood blockbusters are something I'm usually fine waiting to watch at home.

What has recently changed for me is going to the drive-in. I've started going to the one here pretty regularly, and it has sort of reinvigorated the experience for me. It's a double feature for $10 a car (half price on Tuesdays). You can bring your own food and snacks. While it technically isn't permitted, there's no reason passengers couldn't enjoy a couple of adult beverages or the like if they keep it in the car. Since I don't need to leave car, I can dress extra comfortably; the temperature can be exactly where I want it. Now that's the way to watch a movie!

30mins of trailers at the big chains (at least AMC)

You can't do sound properly at a drive-in.

Who gives a fuck about sound when all you want to do is bang your date?

I knew you'd say that, but it sounds great in my car. I certainly don't feel like I'm missing out on anything.

I LOVE the drive-in. Cheap food, multiple movies, no yapping behind me. I wish ours was open all year (not realistic, but I can wish!)

Ours is open every day of the year - rain or shine.

Our drive in is open all year, but not every day of the week in the winter.

You aren't saying what kind of car you have. I don't want to sit for 4-5 hours watching a movie in the bucket seat of my Hyundai.

Re: Movie Theaters

I went to a drive in once and left early. I thought it was a shitty way to watch a movie.

I get the novelty of it for some people, but it’s not for me.

Yeah, it rarely happens so I always forget that's an option. I kept looking at my window like "I scraped that, why can't I see?" Then I grabbed the scraper and tried it on the inside and yep, that was the problem.

Needless to say, a drive-in wouldn't really work here year-round

It's never been a quality presentation.

I thought this would have happened sooner.

AMC Is Charging More For ‘Batman’ Tickets; CEO On Variable Pricing And “Transformational M&A”

https://deadline.com/2022/03/amc-ent...595/“Currently, our prices for The Batman are slightly higher than the prices we are charging for other movies playing in the same theaters at the same time,” Aron said during a webcast following quarterly earnings. He said the move follows a few years after it successfully raised weekend pricing above midweek levels at some of its U.S. locations.

“This is all quite novel in the United States, but actually AMC has been doing it for years in our European theaters. Indeed, in Europe we charge a premium for the best seats in the house — as do just about all sellers of tickets in other industries — take sports events, concerts and live theater, for example.” Aron sees “considerable upside opportunity ahead if we continue to be imaginative” on pricing.

This is going to be an across the board for whatever is the hot ticket movie. I bet the service fee for buying tickets online jumps up also.

Re: Movie Theaters

This will more than likely have a trickle down affect. Expect digital and physical to rise in price.

Re: Movie Theaters

Better lock in your A-List memberships now to help curve those increasing fees.

I haven't been to AMC in like 5 years anyway, I much prefer basically any other chain.

A-list is the best thing since sliced bread. It could go up a bit and it's still a great value.

AMC is the most common where I live, though. Yeah, we also have the Prytania theater here as well, but I already explained why I don't often go there on that other forum, which I will not name. Simply, it's just easier going to AMC. As for Regal, it's way too far. Not THAT far, but it literally would be a waste of gas. It's not a logical option.

Yeah luckily my closest theater is a Regal, the closest AMC to me is actually a little far. There are real nice (but pricey) Harkins and Cinemark locations closer to me than AMC.
