Ah. I guess it was designed with modern theaters in mind, the ones where for scope films, the masking comes down instead of out, to create the scope image. I'm not a fan of this, but it is the way theaters are being constructed. I know OAR is about the right image, not the bigger one (saw that in a sig somewhere...), but scope was always intended on being....more. Not less. It would have been bad-ass had Everything... gone to a big wider image for the action scenes, rather than just one with a wider aspect but smaller in size.

I watched this today...finally. I don't know - I absolutely loved parts of it, but other parts were so batsh*t crazy and over the top, it's kind of hard for me to recommend it, but I don't want to discourage people from seeing it either - just get ready for something really different. One thing is for sure...the movie is way too long...it sort of outstays its welcome/should have been about 45 minutes shorter. Still, given the regular diet of reboots and sequels, this was a nice change of pace, although it's still quite similar to all the multiverse stuff we've been seeing in the MCU, with a dash of The Matrix thrown in.
B+ from me.

Not sure what is happening to me. This is normally a movie I would really get into. So much so I bought the 4K from Vudu thinking I would watch it over and over...I am with Shannon Nutt above ^.
30 minutes in I was thinking this is kinda meh and not really what I expected.
45 in I am thinking what the hell how is this getting all the praise it is? It is stupid as hell.
90 minutes I am like fuck there is an hour plus maybe left? I was not distracted either.
I finished it but would never recommend it. Nor watch again probably. I may but ugh.
I am glad a movie like this is making bank however the next type of this I may get into.

My Mom is a fan of Michelle Yeoh, but I would never recommend this to her. It’s just too weird for her and her tastes. She would either be bored or wouldn’t get it.
I’ve seen it twice in theaters and loved her different it was. But I don’t fault anyone for thinking it’s just too weird for them.

I got my UHD disc from Best Buy. I'm still processing it, but I think I really liked it, and may have even shed a tear at the end. Definitely was inspired by Matrix with the wired fight scenes and downloading skills. But I feel like there was a story there with the daughter that I may appreciate more on a second viewing. Perhaps watching with the commentary might help flesh out the intentions too.

The story between Evelyn and her daughter is the center of the movie for me, it's what elevates this from being a fun weird movie movie, to something that touched me emotionally. I thought the film did a great of telling a story about potentially
within a sci-fi, battle to save the world setting.

Exactly, Crocker - this is why my wife liked the movie even though she really disliked Sci-Fi.

This movie takes place in a sci-fi setting but the sci-fi is besides the point. You have actually to get to the end of the movie and pay attention to figure this out- if you can't get past all the alternate-worlds stuff, then you'll probably miss that.

It was certainly goofier than I was expecting as well, and I expected goofy - just not
goofy

I imagined it might be goofy based on googly eyes in the trailer and all over the poster.
I'm #17 of 9 copies on the DVD waiting list at the library. That way I can watch several more times to drink it all in. Rentals are 3 weeks long. Rented The Northman yesterday. Waiting on them to purchase Lamb and Crimes of the Future.

Finally gave this a try. The acting is fantastic all around as is the actual art direction and cinematography. The story is a mess though; I had a good idea where it was going and where it would end up around the 50 minute mark. There's absolutely no reason this needed to be 140mins long. I even gave it a rewatch, to see if there were more layers on a repeat viewing, but it just drug on in the same places. Worth watching, but not owning.
