Holy shit. I’ve never seen any of these but how did I not know Steven Soderbergh directed the first one?!

And I assume after this one, Soderbergh is going to retire, right?

The first two movies are on HBO Max. I thought they were pretty entertaining and funny.

This joke is kind of hold. The retirement thing got blown way out of proportion. After all the behind-the-scenes drama on numerous films, he was bored and frustrated with the business and distribution model of filmmaking. He took a break from film and moved on to making TV. The state of distribution has changed significantly and that interested him to try and make films his own way and not have to answer to big studios or distributors. He's always been interested in trying new things and techniques. Now he has a large overall deal with HBO Max.

I haven't watched XXL but I really liked the first one. Soderbergh is a mixed bag though. He made some movies I enjoyed a lot, but he's made some real stinkers, too.

Yep. Personally hated Full Frontal and Ocean's Twelve was too self-indulgent to enjoy.

Out of Sight is probably in my Top 10 of all time though.

I quite liked Ocean's Twelve, was mezzo-mezzo on The Laundromat, didn't like The Informant! and never saw Full Frontal.
That said I don't see any "real stinkers" in his filmography, let alone enough to make some nebulous comment on how many he's made over the years.

I don’t know that I’d call them full on “stinkers” but he’s definitely made a handful of middling movies at best. Che, The Girlfriend Experience, Lucky Logan, and The Good German can be added to that list. Not terrible but not great.
There’s also a few others that *I* didn’t like but received positive reviews (Solaris, Erin Brockovich, and Behind the Candelabra). And just because I didn’t like them, i would call them stinkers either.

Sure some middling movies in a long and prolific career. But his batting average as a director is pretty great. And he hasn't had any notorious bombs.

I just thought Runaways' comment that he's made "some real stinkers too" was an odd statement. Which director with 20+ films hasn't ever made a not-great movie?

The Good German, The Informant and both parts of Che are boring as hell, Ocean's Twelve is a fuck you to the audience. So it's not only one or two not-great-movies it's a big chunk of his filmography and he "fails" me on a regular basis. So I'm always interested in his new movies but never excited.
The Knick was brilliant though, loved that show.

I used to work at a videostore in Vancouver, she came in a bunch of times. The first time she came in we talked about how funny we both thought Danny McBride and Eastbound and Down were. So I recommended The Foot Fist Way to her. She came in 3 or 4 more times and insisted I recommend her comedies. She was extremely nice. I hope she gets the support she needs.

I'll be honest. I've only watched the first one to the point of when Olivia goes topless, which was close to the beginning. So, I have no idea about any of the rest of the series.

Re: Magic Mike’s Last Dance (2023, D: Soderbergh) — S: Tatum
Just in time for Valentine’s Day comes the third installment of the blockbuster “Magic Mike” film franchise, the musical comedy “Magic Mike’s Last Dance.”
The creative team behind the first film, which garnered praise from critics and audiences alike, has reunited to create the magic again: Channing Tatum reprises his role as Mike Lane and Steven Soderbergh returns to the helm with a script from Reid Carolin, who also wrote the first two films. And starring alongside Tatum is Salma Hayek Pinault (“House of Gucci,” “Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard”). “Magic” Mike Lane (Tatum) takes to the stage again after a lengthy hiatus, following a business deal that went bust, leaving him broke and taking bartender gigs in Florida. For what he hopes will be one last hurrah, Mike heads to London with a wealthy socialite (Hayek Pinault) who lures him with an offer he can’t refuse…and an agenda all her own. With everything on the line, once Mike discovers what she truly has in mind, will he—and the roster of hot new dancers he’ll have to whip into shape—be able to pull it off?
The film’s producers are Nick Wechsler, Gregory Jacobs, Tatum, Carolin and Peter Kiernan. Julie M. Anderson serves as executive producer. Also starring with Tatum and Hayek Pinault are Ayub Khan Din (“Ackley Bridge”), newcomer Jemelia George, Juliette Motamed (“We Are Lady Parts”) and Vicki Pepperdine (“Johnny English Strikes Again”).
Soderbergh’s creative team behind the scenes includes production designer Pat Campbell (“The Bastard Son & The Devil Himself”), costume designer Christopher Peterson (“The Irishman”) and music supervisor Season Kent (“KIMI,” “Let Them All Talk”), with choreography by Alison Faulk and Luke Broadlick, both part of the “Magic Mike” franchise.
A Warner Bros. Pictures Presentation, “Magic Mike’s Last Dance” slides into theaters only in North America on February 10, 2023 and internationally beginning 8 February 2023, and will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures

Tickets are now up for sale.
Edit: Got my ticket for Friday the 10th. Just looking forward to it hopefully being fun, funny, with some good dance choreography and Salma looking sexy.
