IIRC, Feyd-Rautha wasn't around in the early part of the book but was only spoken of coming later. Perhaps the same for the films?

I'm overjoyed and relieved that they decided to greenlight part 2, I was worried about that.

If the conditions are like now, then yes. But seeing as my kids are about to be vaccinated and I’m getting my booster, I’m guessing watching in theaters will be a lot more realistic by then. But I have no issue seeing it at home like I did with the first one.

Just watched part one again last night and it hasn't really grown on me. I'd still give it a 7/10, but it's definitely lacking something. The cinematography is nice, but I found the drab color grading (all grey or blown out desert environments) tedious to look at after two and a half hours.
Not really a fan of Chalamet's line reading, which is often a soft mumble that sounds like it's being delivered through clenched teeth. Same with Ferguson's frantic whispering. I couldn't make out half of what she was saying during the Litany Against Fear. I realize the performances in Lynch's movie were less natural and almost Shakespearian in tone, but it kind of worked for the material when it wasn't going too over the top (like everything with the Harkonnens).

In the book, Feyd is there when the Baron is revealing the plot against House Atreides. As was mentioned earlier, I also suspect Villeneuve might just drop the character to beef up Bautista's screen time. I hope that's not the case. Or maybe they intend to hire a name actor and decided to save him for part two for budgetary reasons?
They they could also combine Feyd and Rabin's arcs into a single character easily enough. In the books, Rabin wasn't much of a physical threat... he was a dumb, fat slob on his way to becoming another Baron. Bautista is a more physical actor than one would expect for Rabin, so that might be the plan.

I'd hope the next film and the story overall is big enough to have two characters. Plus, there's something iconic enough about Feyd because of Sting that I think even casual fans may notice.
You're right, joe_b, Feyd was part of the planning early in the book. That said, I don't believe he really had scenes until much later. I probably won't reread it anytime soon, I'd rather start Dune Messiah for the first time.

It would have been cool to Paul to have some visions of Feyd though. Maybe they wanted to keep their casting options open for part two. They'll be able to cast someone that appears similar in age to however old Timothee Chalamet appears when they shoot part two.

There was an actor that tweeted he was cast as Feyd the other day. I forget the guy's name. He may have just been bullshitting, though.

Found an article. I think Pattinson would be good but Bill Skarsgard makes a lot of sense.

Same with other characters like the Emperor and Irulan.
Probably could have put Feyd in Paul's dreams by keeping his face in the shadows, though.

In the book Feyd is introduced just sitting in the corner of a room while the Baron and Piter discuss their plan. After the time jump there is a chapter on Geidi Prime where Feyd fights in an arena and wins a knife fight (through cheating of course) . He makes his entrance by rising up out of the arena floor similar to Commodus in Gladiator. IMO, this would make for a perfect cinematic introduction to the character. The audience knows that he is trained in the same form of combat as Paul, but unlike Paul won't fight fair. Classic face vs. heel storytelling from a wrestling standpoint.
In terms of other casting, they could put some names in the roles of Rautha, Irulan, and Shaddam and could probably film each characters scenes with only a few days work from each as they aren't too prominent in the book until the end. My casting ideas :
Tom Holland as Feyd- you want to continue the appeal to teenage girls and have the modern opposite of Chalamet, this is him. If you want to stay with the singer gimmick, Harry Styles or a Jonas brother, but only if they agree to wear the metal underwear like Sting!
Florence Pugh or Anya Taylor-Joy as Irulan- I think I read that ATJ is every fan's top choice, but I don't know if she would be down to make another genre movie after doing so much like it already. If you want someone with a proven track record with Chalamet, then possibly Saorise Ronan, but I think she would be better suited to an older Alia .
Shaddam-herein is kind of difficult. I would LOVE to see Giancarlo Esposito in this role, but that would make the princess casting kind of hard to believe. My bet is that Villeneuve goes with another alum of his movies and casts Benicio del Toro. Dream casting would be if he could manage to get Daniel Day-Lewis to come out of retirement to film for a few days, but I don't see that happening.

While attending a special screening and Q&A for Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures' "Dune" at the SAG-AFTRA Foundation in Los Angeles this past Saturday, The Film Stage's Josh Encinias made note that the film's producer Mary Parent confirmed that the recently greenlit "Dune: Part Two" will begin filming on July 18, 2022.

She was my pick a few years ago (https://forum.dvdtalk.com/movie-talk/520697-dune-2021-d-villeneuve-news-rumors-etc-6.html#post13518365), and I still think it is a good choice.

Either her or Anya Taylor-Joy are my picks. I have a feeling Joy may be getting tired of genre stuff, so Pugh might have a good chance. Irulan isn't that big of a part in the first book, but she's definitely a major player down the line.

Funny that some of these names were mentioned in the thread already, but there’s been rumors going around that the shortlist for Feyd-Rautha Harkonenn are Robert Pattinson, Harry Styles, and Tom Holland. Seems like fancasting almost.

At this point in his career, Villeneuve probably has the juice to pick whomever he wants for these parts in Dune 2 and have that person want to do it.
