This is up on Friday. Critics and audiences seem to be in disagreement according to RT: https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/the_unforgivable

Pretty much by the numbers type of movie and basically every cliché in the book for this type of movie. Could have been a TV Movie. Not great not horrible. Would not recommend. The wife liked it better than I did.

Judging by the trailer, it looks like the only reason this movie exists is because Sandra wants another Oscar.

watched this last night. It was OK, not really oscar worthy at all. You can see some of the twists coming a mile away. It's not terrible but it has no re-watch value whatsoever. 'Nice to see Denofrio has lost some of his weight' would be the best thing I can say about it. Viola Davis gives a decent performance, not entirely over the top for a change.

It was decent. Bullock was good. They had some pretty well known actors playing small roles. Not saying they were wasted... but lesser knowns could have had these roles.

I really liked this movie. The revelation scene between Bullock and Davis was strong.

At the beginning, I was wondering why the sister had a bruise / residue on her face

I enjoyed it, but it's pretty forgettable.

About as entertaining as Bird Box - which was not entertaining at all.

A definite improvement over Birdbox, but that wouldn't have been very hard at all. I liked the twist. I was expecting something different to be revealed. I felt it should have had an epilogue as it ended somewhat abruptly.

Here's a few thoughts on the twist:
Spoiler:
While it turns out Sandra Bullock's character didn't pull the trigger that killed the cop, she would have likely still been guilty of a lower charge of manslaughter since she left a loaded gun in a place where it was easily accessible to a five year old child. Also, since this was a murder of a law enforcement agent, the police should have done a more thorough job of investigating the murder even though Bullock confessed to the crime. They would not have found gun powder residue on her hands. They would have known the height from which the gun was fired did not match Sandra's height so they would have known she didn't fire the gun. Not only that, but she was on the phone, a corded phone, talking to another officer when the shot was fired. The scene shows that the cord for the phone wasn't very long and wouldn't have stretched all the way across the room and half way down the stairs where the gun was fired. so the police, with any reasonable analysis, would have figured out she didn't fire the gun that killed the cop.

Spoiler:
. The kid wouldn't have remembered anyway. Why take the blame? Nothing would have happened.

Yeah that is the completely stupid part about it.

The way they showed it though, she blacked out right after the gun fired, so it's possible she didn't. Sandra Bullock's character wouldn't have any way of knowing if her sister remembered anything or not though, so it was an unnecessary sacrifice. but her character could very well have been charged with multiple felonies even if she didn't confess and still gone to jail. She could have been charged with threatening to kill cops, negligent homicide, etc.

Why go to jail for 20 years and THEN confess what really happened? That pissed me off.
