I’m buying it for $31.99 today on Vudu then watching it on my wife’s iPhone 13 mini. It should yield the same effect.

Lol. Reminds me of when a youtuber took Tenet and crammed it on a Game Boy Advance video cart to watch on a GBA. Just to see if he could and I'm sure to spite Christopher Nolan's claims about watching Tenet on the largest screen possible during the pandemic.

I mean, the Youtuber explicitly stated it was because of Nolan's "big screen" statements.

That's a really cool video. I love that he even printed out new labels for the cartridges.

Just saw that this got a Golden Globe nom for Best Picture and Denis Villeneuve for director. Doubt it will win, but pleasantly surprised it happened. I really do feel if there hadn't been a pandemic and this had come out as scheduled back in 2020 and gotten the same accolades it would have been a bigger hit theatrically.

It's impossible to say for certain, but critical accolades don't necessarily translate to box office success. Blade Runner 2049, for example, has a higher Tomatometer score, but made less box office despite not being released during a pandemic.

If there's no pandemic and no HBOMax? 100% this is a bigger hit. Who knows how much of one, but I can't imagine any studio movie released in 2020-2021 doing worse that what they've done.

Finally got a chance to watch this film a few hours ago.

Absolutely loved it. Can't wait for the sequel.

I regret not seeing it in theaters

Maybe they'll do a double-feature when the sequel comes out.

I saw it three times at home via HBOMax and it was still an amazing experience. Even if it got re-released with the sequel I'm not sure I'd bother.

I have a 120" setup with a solid 7.1 and the theatrical experience still blew it away.

I saw it twice in theaters, which is something I never do. I tried to convince my friends that if they saw any movie in the theater this year, it had to be this one. I won't go so far as to say it's pointless to watch it at home, but...

Is there a way to view this on Oculus? That would be pretty cool.

I just saw that in terms of end of year awards tallies this movie is second only to Power of the Dog in number in wins. Granted, most are visual with a couple of best picture and director wins and it trails quite distantly behind Dog, but when you consider it's basically a demo reel for what can be done with the IP, that's pretty impressive.

There are a few ways to watch it on an Oculus, though most of the video players are kind of buggy on the Quest 2.

I didn’t think they sold 120, most I’ve seen is like 80-something.

Where did you get that and how much was it?

That would be awesome!

I'd even be up for theaters having limited screenings of the first film leading up to the sequel.

Initially, I missed the theatrical run of this film due to heavy scheduling conflicts between myself and a close friend of mine.

I had just started a new teaching position and my friend didn't have a lot of open time in his schedule to view the film. Normally, I normally don't wait on others to see films in theaters but we were both very excited about the film.

I'm sure it did, I probably would have gone to see it in IMAX but unfortunately my local (real) IMAX theater has been closed for almost 2yrs now.

I've heard amazing things about the 4k disk, and it's supposed to be one of the best mastered 4k disks out so far. I can't wait until I get a copy.

Holding off getting the streaming version because I want this on physical media. The quality of picture and sound is always better. FWIW, I tend to get a bit of flickering effect whenever I stream 4K movies that doesn't exist with physical.

Re: Dune (2021, D: Villeneuve) -- S: Chalamet, Ferguson, Isaac, Brolin -- The Spoiler Reviews Thread

This newest adaptation of the classic Frank Herbert novel (which I've never read) has the usual amazing visuals director Denis Villeneuve is known for alongside great cinematography from Greig Fraser (Rogue One, upcoming The Batman) plus the incredible and bombastic score by Hans Zimmer has the technical aspects but void of any real emotion behind the story and, especially, characters.

I couldn't find much wrong with the performances but nobody really wowed me despite having talents like Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, Javier Bardem, Jason Momoa and Rebecca Ferguson, I didn't think anybody stood out, and that includes Timothée Chalamet in the lead role. I can't say this was at all bad and have some mild interest in part two, but, and this says a lot about Villeneuve's great career, this is one of his lesser films. I'll probably at some point give this another watch, especially when/if part two comes out (who knows when that will be). ***¾/***** (rounding it, I was debating 3.5 or 4, went with the latter)

On the plus side, it is much better than the 1984 adaptation.

Cool. Since I probably won't see it in theaters (nothing against this one, I don't like going to the theaters anyway), probably will be around February/March 2024.
