Just got back. It was good, not great. The pacing felt a bit off a times. It's not as serious as the other Craig Bond films here and there. And it's definitely way too long. I gave it a 3 1/2 out of 5 stars (7.5/10).

First… thank you to Eon for giving Fukunaga a shit load of money to make a big budget movie. Anyone who’s seen his previous work knows he can direct the hell out the material he’s given. It all looked great and the action sequences were well done.

The locations were gorgeous. As was Ana de Armas in her very brief appearance. I mean… damn.

Craig was great as always. The relationship with Seydoux worked so much better here than in SPECTRE.

Loved bringing back the We Have All The Time In The World theme.

It definitely needed a trim on the runtime.

I previously would’ve never thought it would happen, but I was not surprised by the ending and killing off Bond because all the marketing was pushing the “nothing can prepare you” stuff. Still a bold move...though a little weird to end like that and still have the James Bond Will Return tag. I’m now really curious what Danny Boyle had in mind when he was on the project and why he ended up leaving.

Basically, the Craig era is the Dark Knight trilogy of the Bond franchise. It told a continuous, complete, story over 5 films.

I’m very much interested to see where the franchise goes from here.

This was like half a great movie, 1/4 a good movie and 1/4 a forgettable movie.

The 1st action setpiece was excellent and the next one in Cuba was quite good, but the rest was kind of meh. Just a lot of standard car chases, gunplay and running around.

Ana de Armas was a fun addition to the storyline (needed more of her) and the relationship between Bond and Madeleine was developed well and given more emotional weight. The Russian scientist guy seemed to have stepped out of a Monty Python movie.

Nice to see Christoph Waltz back as Blofeld. Had a cool Hannibal Lecter-like entrance, but his dialogue wasn't that great.

Rami Malek's villain was a rather dull, dime-a-dozen Bond baddie with a Thanos-like quest to annihilate most of the population.

The ending almost brought me to tears ----- tears of laughter. It was so over-the-top maudlin and seemed to go on forever with that bombastic soundtrack music. It almost made the ending of Return of the King seem short by comparison.

Craig's performance was top notch as usual, but all good things must come to an end. While not up to par with Casino Royale, this film is at least much better than the listless Spectre.

Rami Malek and Lea Seydoux seem pretty close in age, so how could a grown-up Safin nearly killed her when she was a child?

Way too long. Felt like less of a Bond film than the others because there are scenes which just stop the flow and pacing. It's the anti-QoS when it came to action. The whole film series has never had particularly memorable villains.

Paloma's scene alone was worth the price of admission. 😍

If he was 18-21 and she was what...10-12? Not too big of a stretch.

No one is talking about 007! lol

If it were a stand alone movie. I wouldn't have like it. But, since it tied 5 movies in together. I was happy with the outcome. Was this film before the pandemic? or during it? or somewhat after it? lol that would explain why it felt like multiple movies in one.

I want more Ana de Armas NOW!

I think this sums it up pretty well. It kind of sums up the Craig era in general as well. I liked Craig quite a bit, but it's hard to separate his performance (which was great) from the influence he had on the direction and tone of the series (which I'm far less enamored with). Overall I'm psyched that we got Casino Royale and Skyfall, but at this point am glad it's over and Eon can hopefully move on to something different.

Stray thoughts:

-This did not need to be 2:45. There's just no excuse for it at all.

-DeArmas was GREAT and exactly the sort of fun that needs to come back to the series.

-Lynch was fine? I haven't seen much talk about her character despite how CONTROVERSIAL! she was. I didn't think she really added much to the movie. She was just kind of there.

-Malek had his moments, but that character needed something more.

-The Aston Martin V8 is back! Screw the DB5, the V8 was always my favorite Bond car.

-I hope this isn't just the end of the Craig era, but also the end of the Purvis/Wade era as well. I'm not going to pretend to know exactly what their contributions have been over the years given the armies of writers that probably have had their hands on these movies, but let's find a new voice.

A fitting end to Craig’s tenure as 007.

I've enjoy all of this films (even QoS) and loved how a central theme wove through them all.

I agree with the 50/25/25 description above. I got bored in some parts (which was odd) but loved the big sequences (as usual).

Loved how the opening credits were nearly 20+ minutes into the film… and loved the use of “All the Time in the World” song (from OHMSS) used at the end. Very fitting… and the phrase was mentioned several times as well.

Oh, and as an active member of the LDS Church, I laughed out loud when Bond referred to Felix’s clean cut associate, Logan Ash, as “the Book of Mormon” and said “he smiles too much.”

I’ll be seeing it again with my teenage son sometime this week.

Ditto. Good action and set pieces, but too damn long.

Regarding the ending

Spoiler:

RIP James Bond. I was surprised they killed him off. But then again, Craig said he was done and I guess they wanted a stamp of finality on it. I thought it was a good death and he went out on his own terms.

Overall, it was probably my third favorite of the Craig era. I would have preferred a fresh new adventure instead of making it serialized and tied into Spectre. But the action sequences were well worth it and Craig worked his tail off in this one. It was a little too long though. Some parts dragged. I think this would have been better paced at 130 or 140 minutes. Not 163 minutes.

The Bond women were fine. I liked the new 007 and I also liked De Armas. She was totally underused.

And I agree while this was one of the better Purvis and Wade scripts, Barbara Broccoli and Michael Wilson need to find new writers. The franchise needs a fresh new take. Purvis and Wade have written or co-written the Bond series for 20 plus years now.

I liked it. Agree Malik was pretty bland but was still pretty into the experience and also liked the Bond and Madeline dynamic much more this time. I really expected a big reveal about Madeline's father and it never came. What exactly was she planning on telling Bond when he came back from Vespa's grave anyway? I did like Blofield being responsible for ruining Bond's life from behind the prison, but didn't really understand him running a meeting in Cuba using his prosthetic eye (and two magical prosthetic eyes in one movie? That seems like overkill). And wondered how Bond's EMP watch doesn't fry his earpiece. Maybe they protected it somehow but they never told us - - and Lond knows they had enough time for that exposition. "We have all the time in the world" was the editors' mantra for this one.
The ending really worked for me and I didn't really believe it was actually going to happen almost right up until the end.

I was going to ask the same thing. What was the big secret? It was even mentioned a few times after they reunited later in the film. And for that matter, the reason Bond left her in the beginning was pretty weak. He was attacked so he immediately assumed it must be her? "How did they find me?!" I don't know, but the previous movie was literally about a scheme to create a global intelligence network that could track anyone and anything. Maybe Spectre still has some resources? He's also been injected with smart blood more times than I can remember. I get that his character is untrusting by nature and probably looking for reasons not to commit, but come on.

I assume her secret was she was pregnant... and then later that there was a daughter.

What did Madeleine write on her paper before she burned it?

I had to look it up:
Spoiler:
The meaning of the phrase ''L'homme Masqué'', which Madeleine (Léa Seydoux) writes on a piece of paper only for it to later be burned, translates into the English language as ''The Masked Man''. Like the actress' nationality, it is French. (IMDB's Trivia Section)

I didn't think the timeline matched up for that to make sense. My assumption was that the early scenes in No Time To Die took place almost immediately after Spectre. And the way the secret was discussed made it sound like some sort of deep dark secret from her past.

If the secret was about the "masked man", then I'm not sure what the actual secret was. She told Bond the story about killing the man who came to kill her father in the last movie.

Classic misdirect.

A pregnancy totally matches up. She wanted to tell him something just as the chase begins, then he dumps her at the train, followed by the time jump.

The burning message wasn't her secret, it was something from her past that she was letting go of. Just like Bond was trying to let go of Vesper.

Fair enough. I guess I was just hung up on the timeline. I thought No Time To Die took place within days of Spectre, but I guess there's nothing to suggest it couldn't have been a few weeks later, thus allowing time for the pregnancy.

Still not sure why Blofeld suggests her secret "would be the death of him" or whatever, but I guess that's Blofeld being Bloefeld. Speaking of, is there a bigger letdown in this series than Bloefeld? He doesn't really do anything besides take credit for stuff. If we didn't have any prior knowledge of Bloefeld from the earlier films, he'd pretty much just be a guy.

I saw it in Dolby Atmos. Liked it well enough, fitting ending to Craig's Bond, though a bit of an emotionally draining experience. It seemed like they were out of runtime after the finale, as long as it was, it ended super quickly.

The Atmos soundtrack was pretty good, showed exactly what was missing with Black Widow in the format theatrically.
