Some incredible visuals in that trailer, but I'm skeptical of Nolan's ability to deliver a straight character drama. I hope he can pull it off.

Saw the preview on TV and thought this would be a bit different from the usual Nolan movie. Will still see it.

That looks really good. But I wonder how intelligible the dialogue will be during the crowd scenes, given Nolan's increasing penchant for cacophony.

Saw that trailer before GotG3 and it looked great in Dolby Cinema.

Damon looks like Jesse Plemons in this, but that said the movie looks pretty good, but the line deliveries seem a little off.

Probably not the kind of movie I'll watch multiple times, but I am looking forward to it. I usually don't see movies in IMAX because the seats aren't very comfortable, but since this was specifically filmed in IMAX, I'll probably see it in that format.

Damon is aging into Plemons even though Plemons younger.

"This is the most important thing to ever happen in the history of the world" Who's responsible for that shitty piece of cheesy dialog?
There are more in the trailer too. Wonder if the movie is full of them.

I get a choice of IMAX or 70mm.
I guess I should go with IMAX?

If that's your choice I'd go with 70MM. IMAX with no other qualifier is probably digital projection.

I'm not sure this will be a blockbuster. But, I'm sure it will do much better than Tenet. Tenet was for all intents and purposes a domestic bomb, but came out when COVID was still a problem and most of Nolan's fans weren't ready to go back to sitting in a theater yet. Also, the story was really convoluted and the audio mix was awful. I'll be honest, I have had no urge to re-visit it since I saw it in late 2020.

Yeah, it's IMAX laser digital projection.
That article seems to indicate that IMAX digital is the next best choice, but I doubt it really accounts for comparing it to a 70mm projection. I've only seen that sort of projection once in recent years (Tarantino's Hateful 8, Roadshow version), and it looked pretty great.

Whether this film does well or not at the Box Office has far more to do with Barbie than it does with Tenet.
I still can't believe they're coming out the same day.

It's cool they are going with an R rating. I mean why not as I don't think its subject matter would really appeal to kids.

Re: Oppenheimer (2023, D: Nolan) S: Murphy, Blunt, RDJ, Damon, Pugh, Malek

I live in Ontario, Canada, and I've long been interested to observe how our Censorship Classification Board rates movies compared to the MPAA. Looking over the films to came out last year, I see that movies like X, Jackass 4ever, Pearl, and Terrifyer 2 both received an R rating from the MPAA and the equivalent 18A rating here in Canada.

But movies like Everything, Everywhere, All At Once, Three Thousand Years Of Longing, The Good House, Call Jane, Tar, Armageddon Time, and She Said which the MPAA rated R, received a PG here.

I understand the point of the rating is to let people know ahead of time the content/tone of a picture. But how is that possibly helpful when a sweet movie like Armageddon Time is put in the same category as X?

Does Oppenheimar R rating mean it's full of graphic debauchery and potty-mouth language like Babylon? Or does it depict a man and wife together and a couple of "fuck" words. The rating seems to be applied so broadly it's meaningless.

Not really, your allowed an F-word or two in PG-13 films, some partial nudity...violence is the one that is a little more "meaningless." If it's a fantasy with creatures and black goo instead of blood that will get you a lot more lenience. Clearly that is not the case here so...not rocket science.

I think the "rule" is up to three F-bombs are allowed, so long as not a single one of them is sexual in nature. And you can "trade" your f-bombs for more intense violence.
