I’m in the process of watching again and no reason not to. I start around 6:30. Watch maybe a few minutes, get distracted, it’s 10pm and I still don’t know where my damn kids are!!!

Just got back. **1/2 While it had it's moments, overall it just didn't really work for me. Pretty scatter brained, leaning on slo mo shots with songs a little too often (felt like a crutch to me)... I would've just preferred something more straight forward. Harley's break out was the best scene, it's a shame she hasn't had a great movie yet. I'll give it another shot at home, but I can't imagine it'll play better than on the Dolby screen.

We need a team up movie with Deathstroke, Deathlok, Bloodsport, Bloodshot, and Deadshot where they try to figure out which one is which.

I enjoyed it quite a bit. Harley was the highlight for me. Birds of Prey is easily the best DC movie and then Wonder Woman, but this is a sold #3. And easily the best team movie, but that bar is so low for DC that it's sitting on the ground.

I will say that I wasn't shocked about any of the gore. I just went through both seasons of The Boys again and recently finished Invincible, so I've got my fill on "shocking" gore - this was tame by comparison. But I liked that everyone seemed to be having a lot more fun, John Cena was great and overall I really liked it. I'm sure it'll grow on me a bit too through rewatches.

A lot of fun, despite the gore. Harley's breakout was really a showcase scene for Margot.
And Ratcatcher was a really neat character.

I think I'm coming down on the side of preferring the DC movies over the MCU stuff.

Finally finished the movie.

I liked it. I think Gunn's involvement may have raised expectations from some a little too high, but overall I thought it had several great moments that defied expectations (sometimes superhero movies can really feel just too by-the-numbers to me), some great characters, and a plot that if you look too closely, falls apart, but then because of the rest of the tone you just kind of bask in the absurdity of it

I mean, if you're going to do a mission like that, just send in Peacemaker or something. Also if you're going to have them go undercover don't include a gigantic shark and overly ornate costumes... it is a miracle and a contrivance that everything worked out. But again, the tone was right and it hit the right spot, to me, of the Ostrander concept with added humor. Like putting bombs in super villains heads and using them to do the work of the government is such an 80s concept, but only really works if you don't take it too seriously.

I think it also helps that it uses C-listers (besides Harley) so it's not like Gunn could really go all that wrong in his characterization of them (except for the most hardcore of fans).

A bit of trivia I don't think has been mentioned:
Last night I was rewatching Tim Burton's Batman and Bruce Wayne and a couple of other characters know of Vicky Vale (Kim Basinger) because of her photographs in TIME magazine of a violent revolution in... Corto Maltese. It's mentioned like three different times in the movie. That rung a bell because of course it is the setting of The Suicide Squad. I looked it up and Corto Maltese is first referenced in Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns, which I haven't read in a long, long time. Miller apparently named the place after a comic book character from an Italian cartoonist.

This movie was sadly underwhelming in my opinion. The more I think about it and having rewatched parts it’s just kinda meh. However I will say the spin-off, Peacemaker on HBO Max is fantastic. I wasn’t a big fan of the character in the film, but he works much better on his own.

Watched it the other day. Definitely had a Guardians vibe to it with Gunn at the helm, but the cast wasn't near as likable. The gore was too over the top. Humor was decent. All in all a fun ride, but not something I'd ever revisit.

I watched this the other day it was so great. Great team movie, hilarious, over the top violence was great. And Starro!!!

It might have also been bolstered by the fact that I watched it the day after the Eternals which is the polar opposite of this movie.

There’s been a renaissance of people talking about it on Tumblr recently and it reminded me of how gloriously silly this was. How it didn’t hesitate to revel in its comic book origins.
I still think the bit with Harley and the rats inside Starro was an amazing bit of cinema.

I dunno, I didn’t mind Gunn’s SS version, but man does the Peacemaker show have all the fun and smarts that I was hoping SS could have been. Even my wife loves the show, and trust me, that’s huge.

I feel like some people were probably put off by how jarring of a tone shift it is from the first go around.

I thought it was entertaining enough.

One of my favorite scenes has to be the initial beach landing ... when TDK unleashes his "superpower".

Margo's subsequent, "What the Fuck???" may be the best delivery of that line I've ever heard.
