Saw this last night and loved it.

The humor & level of gore had me laughing throughout (KING SHARK!)

Really enjoyed the performances as well, especially from Idris Elba, John Cena & Daniela Melchior.

King Shark with the fake moustache

So IIRC Gunn said the peacemaker show was a prequel. Seems like that was a slight misdirection. I mean they could still do pre-suicide squad stuff, but after the credits tease, seems like this will be more of a continuation of that story?
I think people were asking him when it takes place, and he wouldn’t answer to not spoil anything.

Loved it. This is how the Suicide Squad should have been from the get go. They are treated as expendable characters because Waller doesn't give a fuck about any of them. Loved everything. My only negative is that Waller didn't immediately retaliate for getting knocked down. Comic book Waller would have shot everyone in that room and found replacements for each of them in 4 hours.

Funny thing is that I'm now seeing butthurt fans of the first film shitting on the new one and review bombing in several sites because the sequel "killed too many characters". These people don't understand the concept of the Suicide Squad and are defending a film that for all purposes, the director has basically disowned.

I guess I'm in the minority in that while I loved many aspects the film, overall when it was done I was like "Meh". I feel like I'll like it more in 2nd or 3rd viewing like I did with "Birds of Prey". I don't think my wife will like this since she hated Thor: Ragnarock's comedy/goofy vibe.

Pros:
-Basically the "REAL" team... Bloodsport, Ratcatcher 2, King Shark, Polka Dot Man, and Pissmaker. I would love to see more of all them
-Amanda Waller
-OG's Harley and Rick
-Bloodsport/Peacemaker rivalry
-Some of the early Deaths/Mayhem on the beach and in the camp
-Starro..Gross but looked good.
-DC not afraid to let their characters be sadistically ultra violent and cuss.

Cons:
-A little goofy but not too bad
-Not enough Waller.
-That whole part with Harley and that guy who wanted to marry her. That brought the momentum to an abrupt stop. I almost turned off the movie to go to bed as I was bored.
-Certain big character deaths. Sucked. But I'll give them credit for being bold with deaths

It was okay, not great. The plot wandered too much before getting on track about halfway in. I knew Starro would be kind of silly, but I think it would have been better if he'd been portrayed a little 'darker.'

The opening scene where Flag's team is mostly destroyed reminded me of the similar but much funnier scene in Deadpool 2. I did enjoy seeing Pete Davidson get his face blown off.

Idris Elba was cool, and I liked the whole team--especially Ratcatcher 2 and King Shark. Robbie is always good as Harley, but I wish there were a better movie for her than the three we've had so far.

My edit didn't save. I went back and looked. He said they would explore his origins but wouldn't say anything else. So I guess it can be both.

I have it 3.75 in the poll.

Dragged for me a bit after the beach scene.

Was funny, the fights are choreographed fights were much better then the last Birds of Prey movie.

Never expected I’d see Starro in a big budget movie so that was cool.

Elba was the star for me.
Didnt expect that out of Peacemaker.

Anyway it’s pretty good and worth a watch.

I wondered if Margot Robbie wasn’t available for a lot of the group stuff, so they gave her a largely separate storyline.

She's in a ton of the group stuff. The reason they focus on the new people in the beginning is to introduce you to the new characters. Harley Quinn is a known quantity after the first 2 movies. They're together as a group for literally like the last hour of the movie.

Yeah, it's a little hard to breath with a character as big as Quinn in every scene and they had 5 new people to develop. It seemed very intentional.

Kind of bummed that they killed off
Spoiler:
Captain Boomerang. Would have liked to see more him in the future. He was one the best characters from the first movie.

Re: The Suicide Squad (2021, W/D: James Gunn) -- S: Robbie, Elba, Cena, Davis -- The Spoiler Reviews Thre

I absolutely hated the first movie. James Gunn did a remarkable job reviving this franchise. I really liked Polka-Dot Man and King Shark. It's somehow a fun movie where most of the cast dies. That's a pretty remarkable feat and I loved that it was a real suicide squad even though we lost Polka-Dot Man. I was going to give it a 3.75/5, but I gave it a 4/5 because of how much better it is than the original movie. I'm not a big Idris Elba fan, but I liked him as Bloodsport. After seeing the trailer, I was wondering how they got Vanessa Kirby for a supporting role, but it wasn't her at all. It was Jennifer Holland. She and Vanessa Kirby could be twins.

Re: The Suicide Squad (2021, W/D: James Gunn) -- S: Robbie, Elba, Cena, Davis -- The Spoiler Reviews Thre

The movie was pretty good, but far from original and doubt it will get put on repeat very often. They still dont get Harley Quinn right and Robbies acting choices along with the way the character is written just dont work. I agree that whole sequence with the guy and her was a waste of time. Movie was too long and could have been trimmed of 30 mins easy.

It was far superior to the first movie (but thats not hard to achieve) and its putting DC in a more interesting place, but not deserving of all the rave reviews its getting. Its a solid 7/10.

After seeing this, I don't think I could ever re-watch the 2016 version again.

I don't think David Ayer really understood the characters and material when he wrote that movie.

I laughed that he was still like 3rd billed during the opening credits after that scene.

Ayer has been really vocal over the past week that the movie that came out in 2016 is not his product, but that of WB executives. He said that his version of the film was completely done and edited and final and corporate decided it wasn’t what they wanted. I’m certainly no fan of the Snyder cut, which was done with 20/20 hindsight, but I won’t be opposed to WB releasing Ayer’s version of the film , since he says it was completed back then. His story sounds similar to what happened with Jonah Hex and how WB’s meddling destroyed the film as they released their own corporate cut instead of the director’s version.

Still, Ayer was also under the umbrella of tying his film to Snyder, who’s someone who doesn’t have the grasp of any DC character, so who knows what the hell the real version of the movie is.

I see Lloyd Kaufman was uncredited...anyone spot him? Was it obvious like in GotG?

As I was watching it felt pretty clear that Bloodsport was written to be Deadshot. Some of the character moments, especially with Flag, would have made more sense if he were Deadshot.

I want to watch the older. I know it was trash, but I don’t remember totally hating it, but certainly didn’t love. Not sure if there was a poll or what I gave, but I have in 3D, so it’s tough though bc 3D is only TE. I would be more interested in extended cut. I think I heard it made it a little better. Could and probably dead wrong though. Is extended any better?

I guess I didn’t hate it too much…
