Wow, that was an awesome trailer and yes, my boy Michael Wincott is in it!

Considering we all should know what the acronym means in the title, the big reveal at the end isn't really a surprise.

I'm looking forward to this even though the trailer I saw at the theater a week or so ago didn't really grab me. I try not to let trailers influence me too much, though.

As for Peele's work, Get Out was one that required another watch for me. I was slightly underwhelmed the first time I saw it, but it really clicked with me on second viewing. Us was all right. As others said, there's an interesting idea somewhere in there and some good imagery, but it seems to fall apart at the end.

You can tell it has been a while since I've peeked into this thread when I reply to a post that's several months old.

But I would actually somewhat disagree with this. I thought it was a pretty natural progression for him since many of the sketches leaned into horror.

Yeah, I kinda wish they had not shown the flying saucers in the trailers and just keep the silhouette of them and I think the recent trailers give a lot away. But I'll be damn if it doesnt look like a fun watch.

For me, Us was a lot like Looper.

There was an interesting core idea in it, but it didn't work as a feature length movie. It would have been better as a half-hour/forty-five minute Twilight Zone episode. The premise is just completely ludicrous, and when it's stretched into a two hour movie, it just brings out a bunch of plot and logic holes.

I felt the same way about Looper. There are maybe three good Twilight Zone episodes about time travel in that movie, but it doesn't work as a complete movie...
Spoiler:
Episode one: The hitman who kills people from the future learns that his final hit is his future self. Episode two: The fugitive who time travels into the past, and begins losing body parts only to learn that his pursuers have followed him into the past and are torturing his present-day self. Episode three: The guy who has to kill his present day self to prevent an apocalyptic future.

Get Out would have been an fantastic Twilight Zone episode, too, but it also functions excellently as a feature.

Us really should have been about how we pretty much just destroy ourselves across all cultures and backgrounds and how the other version of us is just the representation of that destruction. Not how they depicted the other versions of each person in the movie, it was a bit far-fetched. I always think about Ice Cube's song US and what it is about.

Any reviews out for this one yet? Peele's movies typically get good buzz so surprised we haven't seen anything yet.

I hope the social media buzz is super positive tonight.

I never realized before the summer what a fucking weak summer (for my tastes) this would be.

There hasnít been really anything since Top Gun, IMO. Men and Crimes of the Future came and went without much of a peep.

This is the last big thing Iím excited about. I have a feeling itís not that great. But will be worth seeing.

I have a ticket to see this Friday afternoon.

But yeah this has been a pretty light summer. Top Gun Maverick was the last big movie that had any kind of buzz and positive word of mouth. Elvis was really good, but I know not everyone wants to see an almost 3 hour music biopic.

I hope this will surprise me.

The fact that they aren't showing this to critics until this week and the embargo is until 24 hours prior to release is BAD news. The studio must have zero confidence.

It will make money off of Peele's name alone regardless.

The movie's title might end up hurting its box office:

He: Hey, wanna go see that new Jordan Peele movie?

She: "Nope"?

He: Okay, let's go see something else then.

You guys know better than that.

The plot is being kept under wraps. That's why this one has an embargo.

I mean, Endgame did the same thing. Lots of movies with secretive plots do it.

Just saw a new Nope TV commercial and the blurb was from The Wrap, called it the best movie of the year.

So thatís a very good sign. Itís probably not, but that high praise is great to hear.

Maybe some socials tonight from other outlets..

Reactions are really strong for the most part, no official reviews yet.

Im satisfied this will be a good and different experience at this point.

Still odd that most critics wonít see it until Tuesday but maybe they did it that way because they can.

Sounds like this is very arthouse, with sprinkles of mainstream past sci-fi.

The trailers for this don't do anything for me. It just looks like a bunch of random shit strung together, and movies like that are, more often than not, terrible.

Like a twenty-first century Buckaroo Banazi.

Scott Movie Mantz didn't like it

I guess we should probably do a spoiler thread for this since this movie does have spoilers that are being kept quiet.

So the dude loves Superman III, Thor Love and Thunder and Coming 2 America but didn't like NOPE.

I... don't know how to gauge that

I guess I would have to read up as to WHY he loved Supe3 and C2A. Otherwise I'd dismiss him just due to those two.
