Re: Pig (2021) - S: Nicolas Cage

Outside of being highly recommended by a few of my friends, I went into this film knowing very little.

The little that I did know was subverted by a film that touches on the power of food, love & grief.

Fantastic debut from Director Michael Sarnoski, anchored by equally fantastic performances from Nicolas Cage & Alex Wolff.

The only small complaint is how Amir treated the pig at the beginning when he went to pick up his truffle order. Even before Robin explained that it really wasn't the pig finding truffles, that's creating your livelihood, dude.

Everything else was exceptional work.

Re: Pig (2021) - S: Nicolas Cage

While I was sad about the fate of the pig - which was more of a pet rather than a "worker" for Robin, it turned out to be a pretty good movie.

Just saw this over Christmas - GREAT movie. Not what I expected, but still really fantastic.

I bought this in all its incarnations, digital, Blu-ray. Top movie of 2021 and longer for me.

Re: Pig (2021) - S: Nicolas Cage

It was ok but for Cage this was a big step up and maybe he can go back to being in respectable dramas again.

Part Ii lagged and it never recaptured my attendance after that and I never was fully invested in his character as I thought it would be.

Surprised it got a lot of postive reviews since I thought most people going in though it would be a weird horror movie with a lot of gore and end up being disappointed.

Funny enough, I went into it with the impression it would be more of a "John Wick"-like Action/Revenge film, and was surprised when it was a character study. In that regard, I thought it was a good, thoughtful film, though more of a four-star than a five-star; I didn't end up with a "wow" when it was over but more of a nodding appreciation. It was good to see Cage give a nuanced, serious performance again.

Caught this on Hulu yesterday. Interesting movie that had me waiting for a "Nic Cage" moment but didn't get one. Found that better for the story. Bummed about the pig but just sat back and let the story go without really guessing where it was going.

Very surprised, not what I was expecting. Good movie with a touching subdued, but powerful performance from Nicolas Cage.

4/5

Re: Pig (2021) - S: Nicolas Cage

This was a sweet, way subdued, genuine performance by a still great actor. One of my favs last year and in any year for awhile. Not number 1, but high up there. Just loved it.

Jeez... I thought this was a gritty remake of Babe. WTF is this shit I just watched??
Spoiler:
10/10. The scene with the fake-ass chef in the fake-ass high end restaurant was great. I hope that dude goes and opens a pub.

Re: Pig (2021) - S: Nicolas Cage

I liked the parallels between Chef Robin and Nicolas Cage. Once highly respected, top of his craft. Turned into something unrecognizable. Trying to find something and rekindle the former magic in the process.

Just watched this. Very effective and sad but glad I saw it. The restaurant scene was brilliant.

Agree, nice to see David Knell (Spring Break) get some work.

Really dug this. Cage should get an Oscar nom.
