Participating in movie piracy as a provider or consumer is gross.
This is playing at the drive-in coming up with Jungle Cruise. The kids like Marvel movies but almost all, not every one but most, have been at home. I've heard the violence is pretty brutal. Anything very intense and/or abrupt enough I've gotta be ready for them if we went?

Finally saw this last night with the family. There were only 2 other people in the theater for a 7:40pm showing.
I liked it.

They just use it as a lame excuse to ignore the fact that it's a bad film.
You see the same type of thing with the term "Review Bombing".

I purchased Premiere access after resisting it for Mulan and Raya. I always figured Black Widow would be my tipping point, and since we had a couple guests staying with us, we got five admissions, so that seemed reasonable.
I thought the movie was fine. I’ve always liked the character in the comics, and I like ScarJo, and the intrigue element of Winter Soldier helped make it my favorite MCU movie. I thought this might be more like that, and I guess it kinda was, but it just didn’t really grab me that much. The fact that we already know the fate of the character really didn’t bother me that much either. I just think it wasn’t that great of a movie.
On the last scene, I agree that JLD felt off. She wasn’t a surprise because I’ve seen her in the FATWS TV series, but she’s still Elaine Benes to me, and the vaguely comedic bits here didn’t really fit the mood.

I enjoyed it, especially the sisterly interactions. The standard Marvel pitfalls are present here, already discussed above. Pugh was great, and I'm on board with her continuing in the MCU.
My family just started watching the MCU through in release order now that the kids are old enough. I think I'll put Black Widow in chronologically, and just skip the after credits scene. I don't feel like the scene did anything spectacular that won't be filled in later on, and I think Black Widow will have more of an impact coming after Civil War instead of after Endgame.

Wow, that is a big story. Suing Disney doesn’t usually end well. Regardless don’t expect any more Natasha flashbacks.

Woah.
Didn’t they take the time to hammer out these details during all the delays? I remember her contract being one of the points of reference in news articles when all this was stating to happen.
It sounds like Disney made the decision against what Marvel Studios wanted.

Good fucking luck suing the Mouse.
Guess this means no more flashbacks with her in any future movie/show.

Isn’t she Executive Producer on the movie? Probably her original deal had no language that involved streaming and now that the movie is a money loser, she’s getting screwed out of millions that she is entitled to as a producer.

Yup. The article said she missed out on an estimated $50mil+.

I guess it is good they already killed her off!
Seems weird they hadn't already hammered out these details since this movie has been delayed for basically a fucking year.

I don't get it. Is she mad that the people who paid $30 on D+ didn't go to theaters and pay less for a ticket? Or does she think that people had mass gatherings for it and that $30 per would have been more in individual tickets? Did she think this would make Avengers money, regardless of the pandemic or release situation?

Re: Black Widow (2021, D: Shortland) -- S: Johansson, Pugh -- The Spoiler Review Thread
Regardless of the pandemic or release situation... Captain Marvel made over $1 billion. No reason to think this couldn't have done somewhere near that. Even taking something like Ragnarok... that was $850mil.

Still yeah, this was definitely the carrot dangling at the end of the stick for Johansson, and they definitely capped the revenue with the simultaneous Disney+ Premiere Access release
Warner paid off their stars for the HBO Max movies, Paramount told Krasinski no when him and his wife inquired (due to the 45 day window), and Disney simply didn't respond to Johansson. A lawsuit is probably the right way to go.

The pandemic, Disney Premiere, and people pirating it cost it millions of potential theatrical revenue.
Kevin Feige and Bob Chapek should take some of the blame for this. This movie has been sitting for over a year and they didn’t think about reworking the language on Scarlett’s deal? Did they not think she wouldn’t notice or her money reps wouldn’t notice all the money she got screwed out of? They had over a year.

“The lawsuit also claims that “Disney’s financial disclosures make clear that the very Disney executives who orchestrated this strategy will personally benefit from their and Disney’s misconduct,” as it identifies Disney CEO’s Bob Chapek’s equity grants “totaling 3.8 times his $2.5 million base salary” in 2021, with the “primary justification” for that award being the launch of direct-to-consumer services. The lawsuit also notes that Disney executive chairman Bob Iger received the “overwhelming majority” of his $16.5 million compensation in the form of stock grants, with the company’s annual report citing the growth of Disney+.
“In short, the message to—and from Disney’s top management was clear: increase Disney+ subscribers, never mind your contractual promises, and you will be rewarded,” the lawsuit states.“

I hope she gets her money. It's a studio executive's job to keep talent & producers happy and not break contractual language. There could be big blow back from this. She may never work for Disney again or producers may not want to work with them again.

Maybe a couple. IMO nowhere hear the hundreds it would need to get slightly on par with other MCU films. It's a movie about a non-superhero character who was already dead in the MCU timeline (and not very popular to begin with). If they expected 500+m out of this film, they have real bad forecast analysts at Disney.
