Feels like it might be a movie like that where it's trying to be so many things that it's really nothing at all. It wants to be ambitious and epic, but it just ends up being a lot of video-gamey special effects over an incomprehensible plot.

I might be misreading it, but I'm getting more Jupiter Ascending or Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets off of this than Star Wars. Maybe it we'll get lucky and it will land somewhere in the middle like The Chronicles of Riddick.
Seems like a good read to me.

Looks like some cool special effects but that trailer isnít exactly wowing me. The pretentious sub-title isnít doing it any favors either.

Looks like something from the early-to-mid-2000s, akin to Mamouri Oshii's Avalon, Sky Captain, Casshern or Snyder's own 300. And also really generic.

But I'm sure I'll watch it, being Netflix and all.

Looks perfect to half-pay attention to on a Saturday afternoon on Netflix.

The novel adaptations are available for pre-order and are written by V. Castro, which surprised the hell out of me. She's written some awesome Mexican Gothic novels and wrote the origin novel story "Vasquez" in the Alien-verse canon. Awesome seeing her involved in the project.

The Rebel Moon universe continues to grow. There will be a prequel graphic novel coming next August:

Kind of sucks that this is being limited to only Netflix owned theaters for it's brief theatrical run. The Gray Man, Glass Onion and Red Notice all played theaters near me, but they were smaller chains than Regal and AMC.

Yeah, AoD played at my nearest iPic theater. This is playing at the Egyptian Theater, which is a pain in the ass to get to, so Netflix it is.

How do you get a special early release on your streaming service? It’s just a release.

Maybe they'll let us stream it for 24 hours on 12/21 then take it down until a week later?

I thought the same, but what is the benefit when you are talking about streaming? It’s not like a one-night only theatrical to allow time for talk to build up for a release a few weeks later. It’s streaming, once it is dumped, it is dumped.

I dunno. I still don’t understand the streaming model when it comes to large movies.

I feel the same. Especially since Netflix is so quick to axe stuff if people don't drop everything to watch stuff in a single sitting. The benefit of home viewing is you can watch at your leisure.

Reviews coming in: https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/reb..._child_of_fire

Yikes... I'll still check it out though because I really dig Sofia Boutella.

Instead of releasing it at 3am Eastern / 12am Pacific, they are releasing it earlier.

I mean do reviews even matter for this? Snyder fans will watch regardless. A lot of Netflix subs will probably check it out because it is "free".

I'm both of those things. If it's intolerable, I'll turn it off.

Fantasy movies like this are always a tough. Even a perfectly constructed and expensive film like the new Dune doesn't really pull me in.

This is critic proof for me, like most genre pictures. So I'll just wait to form my own opinion when I see it.

Expected cliched responses..

This movie was awful. I’m so glad I didn’t pay to see it in a theater

For a “streaming movie” it wasn’t that bad

What I don’t get is why are they doing this director’s cut bullshit? Just put the intended version out. Why should we waste our time with this (poorly reviewed) version when they are just going to put out another. It’s not like it’s going to be a wide theatrical release that needs to fit into a shorter run time.

Gets people talking about it again after we have moved on, a la the Synder Cut.

So they’d prefer people to shit on the movie first?

Releasing 2 versions of a streaming movie is a complete waste of time.

JL got shit on when it was released and there was still a decent amount of buzz when the Snyder cut came out. I don't necessarily disagree with what you are saying, but I can also see this as a way for Netflix to get people interested again.
