Mulholland Drive is better imo

Mulholland Drive

Re: Better Film: Mulholland Drive or Videodrome?
I prefer Videodrome more.

Re: Better Film: Mulholland Drive or Videodrome?
I prefer Videodrome. Religious cults using media for mind control is still relevant today.

Re: Better Film: Mulholland Drive or Videodrome?
Mulholland Drive for me.
|
Re: Better Film: Mulholland Drive or Videodrome?
I'd rather watch Videodrome again.

Re: Better Film: Mulholland Drive or Videodrome?
It’s been years since I’ve seen Videodrome and I don’t remember a lot. Mulholland Dr. is a masterpiece so it wins by default.
I also typically enjoy Lynch’s movies more than Cronenberg’s in general anyway. |
Re: Better Film: Mulholland Drive or Videodrome?
I love both, but I’ll have to go with Mulholland Drive. What David Lynch did with the 90 minute pilot and turned it into a 147 minute masterpiece is genius. He took an initial episode of a TV mystery and changed it via editing and additional footage into this story about a tale of how Hollywood uses women and how it created a love triangle that leads to jealousy and ultimately murder.
As good as the movie is, watching the pilot makes you appreciate it even more. Too bad it couldn't be included as an extra on the Criterion Blu-Ray. |
Re: Better Film: Mulholland Drive or Videodrome?
I don't like Videodrome and, as a non-David Lynch enthusiast, I haven't yet seen Mulholland Drive.

^ What should be considered Cronenberg’s best then? The Dead Zone or The Fly? I smell new poll coming up.

Re: Better Film: Mulholland Drive or Videodrome?
For me Cronenberg’s top 5 are
Crash Dead Ringers Videodrome The Fly The Brood |
Re: Better Film: Mulholland Drive or Videodrome?
I'd put The Fly as his #1.

 But yeah Videodrome all the way. |
Re: Better Film: Mulholland Drive or Videodrome?
Two classics of their respective genres, which are genres entirely of themselves. I love both of them to death. But Mulholland Dr. is one of my top 10 movies of all time, so it gets the nod.

Re: Better Film: Mulholland Drive or Videodrome?
I'd easily say Videodrome is Cronenberg's best, but it's not like by a landslide.

My instinct is to go with Cronenberg’s signature kooky movies as his best (The Fly, Videodrome, Naked Lunch, etc.) but I despite wanting to pick one of his creepy features, I always end up back with A History of Violence as his best.
But to answer the thread's question: I prefer Mulholland Dr. |

Dead Ringers is exquisitely directed and acted, but just not very involving. That's one I'd like to watch again, though. I haven't seen it in decades.

I haven't seen it in decades either but I didn't like it, back then, although the acting and directing were weill done. Everytime someone praises the movie, I think about giving it another shot. Sometimes being older helps. I didn't like Blade Runner or Get Shorty when I watched them as a teenager.
