"yeah I've used cocaine. Liz hasn't though, she refuses to."

This guy has been well trained by being married to an up and coming actress

Oh I know, I'm just making note of him going out of his way to add it.

Oh I'm sorry, I didn't realize action comedies are incapable of being well reviewed since the premise might be over the top. Critical reviews are only relevant to dramas, my mistake

Synopsis of Violent Night:
An elite team of mercenaries breaks into a family compound on Christmas Eve, taking everyone hostage inside. However, they aren't prepared for a surprise combatant: Santa Claus is on the grounds, and he's about to show why this Nick is no saint.

Noonan definitely thinks a movie with the above summary can't possibly be well received because it's silly.

Oops, it WAS well reviewed!

Same hope and expectation here.

Re: Cocaine Bear (2023, D: Banks, P: Lord/Miller) S: Russell, Liotta, Ehrenreich, Jackson, Ferguson

I thought this was kinda, sorta fun. I dug the 80's look and soundtrack to the movie and and the fact that Elizabeth Banks went all in on the over-the-top gore aspects in certain scenes. When the bear was onscreen and acting vicious and crazy, the movie was great. The ambulance sequence was the high point.

Unfortunately, when the bear wasn't onscreen, which was quite a bit, the movie was pretty mediocre. The characters were mostly thin, genre retreads who delivered a few humorous moments here and there, but were mostly dull. The finale in the dark cave was a letdown as the movie suddenly veered into generic action.adventure mode instead of delivering the goofy, gore-splattered finale it deserved.

This is also the second movie I've seen in the last few months in which someone's cute pet
Spoiler:
decides to feast on a character's severed fingers (though with less tragic results here)

Why does this feel like a review of many kaiju movies?

I'm still interested but will probably wait for streaming, any idea who would have it?

It's Universal so it should be PVOD in 17 days and on Peacock, usually, after 45 days.

I was going to see this tonight, but I’ve been at work since 330am, so I probably would pass out from exhaustion. I’ll try tomorrow. But a friend who saw it wasn’t all that crazy about it. He gave it a very light recommendation at best.

My friend went yesterday and gave it big recommendation.

We'll see which friend was right.

Way too many teens think this movie seems cool. I sure hope it has some kind of anti drug message.

Donít do cocaine, kids. Please. Itís very expensive.

I don't know about you guys, but if this film doesn't have [wild animal] in [crazy situation] while [people are the real animals] then what is cinema, really?

Re: Cocaine Bear (2023, D: Banks, P: Lord/Miller) S: Russell, Liotta, Ehrenreich, Jackson, Ferguson

Caught this last night and while I found it hilarious and would recommend it, I don't think there's any harm in waiting a few weeks for it to hit streaming. If you can find a way to see this with a fairly populated theater, I highly recommend it, having an audience that is enjoying the joke with you helps immensely. I also really enjoyed the very 80s score by Mark Mothersbaugh. The only real twist of the movie is
Spoiler:
learning the bear is a female, unless another teaser said it

I of course loved the bear, but the standout performance to me was Alden Ehrenrich (sp?) . He really did a great job with his character. He's a pretty good actor, he just wasn't ready to be Han Solo. That being said, the fact that he chose to work on this with Lord and Miller after the whole directorial dispute regarding Solo., as well as their other creative output, indicates that they probably weren't destroying the Solo movie.

Lord and Miller have spoken (mostly) fondly of the cast and crew of Solo despite the bad outcome. It does sound, from their view, they simply weren't delivering what was wanted of the movie in tone or at the right speed.

Ron Howard is pretty supportive of them too.

I saw this last night. While I can't QUITE recommend it, it does have its fun bits. The problem is there's a long stretch at the beginning (after the opening scene introduces the bear) that we don't see the bear at all, then the finale (which features Ray Liotta) just didn't work for me. But everything in between is pretty decent and funny. So, out of 95 minutes, 45 are worth it.

My gf and I were pretty stoned while watching this. I don't personally remember a whole lot of the story itself, but there were several big laughs and some pretty gnarly gore that had me wincing

Watched it a couple of hours ago with the family. Overall a good show and as published. This is right there with 80's nonsense movies like Harry and the Hendersons and Earth Girls are Easy.

Will it get a sequel? Perhaps Cocaine Zoo? A family romp through a zoo of raging animals.
