Wow, I just do not keep up with current movies. The only one I saw was Sonic, right before lockdown and we really enjoyed it.

Saw "Nomadland" earlier tonight. Another great Frances McDormand performance and great little film. It oddly felt like a documentary at times. Assume a lot of the people in it weren't actors. If not, they were terrific and very moving. This is also one of 2020's very best!

Re: Your Favorite Films of 2020
2020 American Films that I watched so far (from the Wikipedia list):
Underwater
Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn
The Lodge
The Invisible Man
Guns Akimbo
Onward
Trolls World Tour
Bad Education
Artemis Fowl
Hamilton
Boys State
Mulan
Borat Subsequent Movie Film
The Midnight Sky
Wonder Woman 1984
All in all ... nothing in there was great. If I was going to put something back on to rewatch it, I guess it would be Birds of Prey and the Fantablulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn or Hamilton.
2020 Foreign films (these were probably the three best!)
You Will Die at 20
The Platform
New Order
There are several that I am looking forward to checking out in the next few weeks. My three favorites though were "2019" movies that were not available to me until 2020 ...
JoJo Rabbit
Parasite
The Vast of Night
Underwater

The Invisible Man

I am the only person in the world who did not love The Invisible Man. I get there is nostalgia for it being the last film many people saw in theaters ... but it isn’t that good.
Going to have to give this some thought, as my perceived timeline this year is screwed up ...
Films from 2020 or films we saw in 2020?

I think that I only saw four or five new movies in 2020, and only two of them really stood out for me:
Host (Shudder)
The Half of It (Netflix)

In no order...
Let Him Go
Kajillionaire
Palm Springs
The Invisible Man
The Trial of the Chicago 7
News of the World
Sound of Metal
Promising Young Woman
Minari
Tenet
I know the 2021 Oscars are different, but I limited my list to movies released in 2020.

Re: Your Favorite Films of 2020
wasn’t it just released in theaters while limited for first time making it qualify as a first run theatrical release, even if it’s in 2021, movie?
Actually IMDb lists as 2021. Don’t know how they could film, market and show a completed movie in 4-ish months then that’s something. Buy can’t see all of it being made in 21.
Nothing could be quite finished by now (theatrically), so must have been made in 2020 or even 19 and thus eligible still to qualify for 2022 Oscars (at least), which I’m sure won’t win or even be remembered by then, unless they pop out that sequel prior to show next year, it becomes a cult and more hit it deserves and poof.
I don’t know what qualifications exactly but if made in 2020 or 19 and I saw in 2021 then it’s a 2020 movie in my book, released in 2021 making eligible for 2022 Oscars, but know just released to whatever theaters open and streaming services. Too bad this wasn’t an HBO Max, cause it would have gotten use in a month.

It was released in theatres in March. It would be on your 2021 list... whenever that thread starts at the end of the year.

Re: Your Favorite Films of 2020
I’ve seen a lot of the stuff.
I think One Night In Miami might be my favorite. I’m very surprised it didn’t get a Best Picture nomination.
thought it was really a neat little movie.
