Jenkins confirmed today at DC Fandome that WW3 is still in the works.

They had a little chat with her and Lynda Carter about WW's 80th anniversary

My guess is this won't come out until 2024 at the earliest.

I expect more from Gunn than sidelining WW. He's gonna give kiteman a movie or something dumb

Wow. It doesn’t sound completely dead, but they probably want to hire their own people to work on a story. But, Gal and Patty Jenkins are practically BFFs, so I don’t know if Gal would work with anyone else. And Gal is incredibly popular with young girls, so I don’t think DC wants to kill it entirely, just start over. Even though 84 bombed because it was released during the worst of the pandemic, it’s still a worthwhile IP to try to do at least one more movie with the right creative team.

sure, but it didn’t help that practically all theaters in the United States and most of the world were closed in December 2020. Most watched it on HBO Max or pirated it. Almost no one was going to the theater back then, hence the poor box office.

I’d like to see Gal play Wonder Woman at least one more time. Maybe without her BFF involved. But I wouldn’t lose any sleep if this is it. She did play the character in 4 movies after all.

re: Wonder Woman 3 - S: Gal Gadot

I mean a few things with this in my opinion. First of all Wonder Woman 1984 wasn’t very good.

Second while not directly tied into the Snyderverse Gadot’s Wonder Woman is tied to it somewhat. Since we’re moving on from that maybe it makes sense to not have Gadot continue.

Lastly I have to wonder how long Gadot was set to play the character. If she was going to be done soon maybe another under the new DC Studios branding doesn’t make sense.

re: Wonder Woman 3 - S: Gal Gadot

I dunno. That Hollywood Reporter article came across as speculative at best. If they were indeed restarting, even Gunn's The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker go out the window since the two are linked and both feature Viola Davis as Waller, while the latter has a cameo appearance by Ezra Miller and Jason Momoa as Flash and Aquaman respectively. Also, the article suggests Momoa is to play Lobo when that was debunked by Momoa himself a while ago.

At this point, everything should go on the BS pile until Gunn/Safran or the WB execs say otherwise.

Thank God, what an absolute disaster WW84 was for DC and WB, an embarrassment only shielded by the pandemic.

I doubt they're sidelining it entirely, they're more likely moving away from Jenkins' script to better suit their gameplan. And the further they move from WW84, the better.

I don't think anyone at WB gives a damn about the BO returns for WW84. They know the situation. I think that moving forward with the franchise, they would be much more interested in the quality of WW84 and the direction that the same creative team would be going for a third film. Yes, there will be an audience for a third Gal Gadot WW movie no matter what, but how about making it good, just for shits and giggles.

Either she hadn't heard at the time of her post or she's putting a very positive spin on the situation.

Oh man, this is kind of a bummer but as long as Gunn keeps Gadot, I'm in for whatever ride he wants to take me on.

Really hope Gadot sticks around. Her, Cavill and Momoa were by far the best things to come out of the Snyderverse.

re: Wonder Woman 3 - S: Gal Gadot

Wonder Woman 3 According to those in the know, it was Patty Jenkins who walked away after receiving notes on the treatment she submitted to the studio. Apparently her threequel pitch had character arc problems which rivaled that of Wonder Woman 1984, which despite being impacted at the box office for the worst by closed NYC and LA theaters during Covid and a studio HBO Max day-and-date plan, was panned by critics at 58% Rotten and not a rave with fans with a B+ Cinemascore despite the first one getting an A. One rival studio executive observed the potential problem in the current DC set-up of having a filmmaker like Gunn providing notes to an established filmmaker like Jenkins, however, we hear that Warner Bros. Motion Picture chiefs Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy had concerns about the treatment before Safran and Gunn weighed in. The group provided notes. Jenkins fought back and defended her vision that the threequel’s character arcs were solid. Jenkins was given the opportunity for another pass, but opted to walk. While the optics of Wonder Woman 3 not going forward post the killing of Batgirl provides bad optics for the studio, it was never anyone’s intention to be sexist. The hope for another Wonder Woman exists. The question is whether Gadot wants to make it sans Jenkins, and judging from the actress’ tweet two days’ before the explosive DC news, it sounds like the actress wants to stay aboard. Combined, the Wonder Woman movies grossed $992.4M, the first dynamiting female moviegoers to the DC universe. Why wouldn’t the current DC administration not want to make more Wonder Woman?

Re: Wonder Woman 3 - S: Gal Gadot

The optics of a man giving a women notes on her treatment of a female empowerment movie that she’s been in the drivers seat for two previous movies isn’t great, especially after the shitshow that was Batgirl - another female lead superhero movie.

That said, WW84 was borderline Superman 4: The Quest for Peace bad. I have no faith in Jenkins’ character arcs based on what I saw in WW84. I hope they do make a third movie and that Jenkins is involved in some capacity because she does appear to have a passion for the character but if not, I hope Gadot at least decides to go forward with it. I think Wonder Woman means more to young girls than Party Jenkins’ ego.

Re: Wonder Woman 3 - S: Gal Gadot

If there's no decent script, it's better going in a different direction. WB is in a tough spot due to the optics of the situation - Jenkins was given a lot of credit for the success of the first Wonder Woman and she's tied at the hip with Gadot. In a world where no one knows her name, Jenkins would have been let go after the disastrous WW1984 which killed the momentum of WB's biggest female superhero franchise.

Re: Wonder Woman 3 - S: Gal Gadot

Jenkins didn’t write the first movie and it was a massive hit. Feels like the new regime doesn’t think Jenkins work as a writer is good enough and she got defensive with her work.

Re: Wonder Woman 3 - S: Gal Gadot

The Wrap’s take and scoop makes Jenkins sound like a fucking ego maniac. Apparently she sent the studio heads a Wikipedia link to character arc because they didn’t understand her vision. If any of this is true, fuck her. They’re cutting the checks, not her.

"Optics" be damned, these aren't just Wonder Woman movies, they're parts of a greater whole. If they want to have a successful shared universe, then they can't let the directors have absolute creative control of their individual movies.

This is the main reason that Star Wars under Disney has been such a clusterfuck. And, interestingly enough, Jenkins is even a part of that equation.

You know what's bad optics? WW1984 That she was even given the option of WW3 is absurd beyond belief.
