He’s All That (2021, D: Mark Waters) - Netflix

Rachael Leigh Cook, the star of the 1999 film “She’s All That,” has joined the cast of Miramax’s gender-swapped remake, titled “He’s All That.”

Cook will portray the mother of Padgett Sawyer, the remake’s protagonist, played by TikTok star Addison Rae. In the 1999 original, Cook played Laney Boggs, the lovable art nerd who was made over by Freddie Prinze Jr.’s character, Zackary Siler.

“He’s All That” stars Rae in a role inspired by Zackary and “Cobra Kai” actor Tanner Buchanan as Cameron Kweller, the least popular boy in school. In an attempt to avenge her reputation from an embarrassing fallout with her boyfriend, Padgett accepts the challenge to turn Cameron into the school’s Prom King.

“I’m thrilled to be reunited with so many familiar faces! This version has a great new spin that I think people will really enjoy,” Cook said.

Cook most recently starred in Netflix’s “Love, Guaranteed,” which was the platform’s No. 1 most-watched film of September. In an interview with Variety about her new film and her experience in “She’s All That,”Cook said: “I’m just grateful every day that I didn’t come of age in the era of camera phones, and yet, that makes me sound way more scandalous than I actually was.”

Directed by Mark Waters — who also helmed “Mean Girls” and “Freaky Friday” — “He’s All That” is penned by R. Lee Fleming, who wrote “She’s All That.” Original producers Jennifer Gibgot and Andrew Panay are also on board, and the film is being produced by Miramax.

The “He’s All That” cast also includes Madison Pettis, Peyton Meyer, Isabella Crovetti, Andrew Matarazzo, Vanessa Dubasso, Myra Malloy, Annie Jacob, Brian Torres, Romel De Silva, Dominic Goodman, Ryan Hollis and Tiffany Simon.

Cook is represented by Dan Spilo at Industry Entertainment.

Good lord... I don't have high hopes when a "TikTok Star" is the lead....

The title of this thread is clickbait designed to get people to open the thread in the hopes that John Waters is making a new film.

Yes, same disappointment that it's not John Waters.

Even though I knew it wasn't John, I still clicked on the thread so I could read others bemoaning that fact.

Ok, crybabies. I get it... you wouldn’t suck this movies’ lousy dick if you were suffocating and there was oxygen in it’s balls!

As long as there is a spontaneous choreographed group dance sequence, I'm in!

I don’t think I’ll ever watch this. I just came in to say, holy shit does Rachael Leigh Cook still look good!

She looks great in that photo, but IRL when she wears her glasses and pulls her hair back, she's a real dog.

Starring Addison Rae and Tanner Buchanan, He's All That reimagines the original plot of the 1999 teen classic She’s All That. The contemporary story follows an influencer (Addison Rae) who accepts a challenge to turn the school’s biggest loser (Tanner Buchanan) into prom king.

I thought maybe they would lean into the whole "transformation" thing being ridiculous, but nope, the guy is already incredibly buff underneath his shirt and gets a haircut and voila.

Also, I swear the pic in the OP looks like Bridgit Mendler.

The blurb in the OP says “this version has a great new spin” but that trailer makes it look exactly like the first one. So the “spin” is the genders are reversed? Not the most original Pygmalion twist. Can’t Buy me Love comes to mind. It looks like it’s got all the same silly clichés: ugly duckling turned beautiful swan with a simple haircut? Check. High school dance filled with professional dancers? Check.

There looked like a quick shot of Matthew Lillard in that trailer. Frankly, him and Rachel Leigh Cook are the only reasons to see this and I’m guessing they’re no more than glorified cameos.

I'm not a big fan of Addison. But I loved the first one so much that I will give this a shot and watch it with my daughters. =) A little dad and daughters time.

From what I gather, six packs and good looks are hugely unpopular these days.

I'm more annoyed that every teen movie now has to have a gender flipped remake or sequel but I'm planning on watching this one.

Did they redo "just one of the guys" yet? Or "Bring it On?"

I’d love to see the female version of Buddy.

She’s a bit old now but a young Aubrey Plaza could have played the role well.

AV Club gave this a D, apparently it is rather bland and by the numbers. I admit that I am not really feeling hyped. I will still watch but I suspect this movie might have held more interest for me if I had not seen She's All That many, many, many years after it was in originally in theaters. Now that I think about it, I may have just seen She's All That for the first time in the past 18-24 months.

The Prom Dance sequence is just as absurd and unrealistic as it was in She's All That.

So did anyone else here watch it? I wanted to hate it but I ended up really liking it. It kept many of the absurd elements from She's All that and I liked the cameos from Matthew Lillard and Rachael Leigh Cook. Matthew Lillard was funny as the principal.

Re: He’s All That (2021, D: Mark Waters) - Netflix

I watched She's all that with my 17 year old daughter just before He's all that and she liked the first more. I wasn't impress with He's all that neither. My daughter said Addison couldn't act, I'm not sure that was it but it didnt work for me. lol
