Maybe if it was a hit or made decent money there would have been a 4 hour cut.

This movie was a big money loser for Apple and not well reviewed. You need to spend even more money to hire a quality editor, audio and other post production people to cut the longer version. And then you have to promote it. Probably not worth it for Apple. This is not the early DVD days where studios had loads of cash laying around to make longer versions like what Scott was able to do years ago.

Eh, it's that same article that World of Reel posted, with zero corroboration from the studio. Sucks if true, but I'll wait and see.

Thats why I said in my original post “Report”

Realistically, I don’t think anyone is dying for a 4 hour cut. People have moved on from this movie. Ridley is already in post for Gladiator 2.

I wonder if in a few years or decades another filmmaker tries to make a Napoleon film to make up for the dud in 2023?

I feel like this is much better suited to be a limited series than a feature film. I was certainly interested in watching this and eventually might --- but trying to jam a historical figure (or Napoleon's stature - pun intended) into a 2, 3 or 4 hour film seems like a poor choice.

Spielberg is still planning to put together Kubrick's version as a limited series for HBO.

Ridley's version wasn't made for historical accuracy. It makes more of mockery of Napoleon.
