Re: The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent (2022) - S: Nicolas Cage as Nicolas Cage

I read some excerpts from that article. Good for Cage using the money from all the VOD movies to pay off all his debts. He did the smart thing than continue on his bad path. Once the A-list studio jobs started drying up, he had to do what he had to do.

I'm sure he wouldn't turn down a studio job, but at his age now, if he can continue to make a living in the Indie world, then great for him. I'll be rooting for him.

Saw this tonight and it was everything I thought it would be and a little more. I don't think it's any surprise given the trailers. I was hoping for more of his movie callbacks, quips and one liners. Pedro is pretty good too as an alternate Maxwell Lord.

Cage did an AMA on reddit. Good stuff.

This was just so much fun and exactly what I needed. It struck the right balance between goofy and serious, and never felt like it was cruelly making fun of Cage while also let him poke a lot of fun at himself. It’s meta, but not as surreal as something like Being John Malkovich. Just a fun time at the flicks.

I guess I'll have to watch Paddington 2.

If anyone here has T-Mobile, they have a special $4 ticket to see this through Atom Tickets for T-Mobile Tuesday, You have 5 days to redeem the code.

I went ahead and booked a ticket for Saturday. Seeing it at a Harkins theater instead of AMC.

Re: The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent (2022) - S: Nicolas Cage as Nicolas Cage

Just got back from seeing it. Surprisingly my theater's auditorium was almost full for this.

Anyways, I liked it. Perfect movie for a Nic Cage "comeback" if you want to call it that. It was very meta, but also offbeat, funny and cleever.

I loved the chemistry he had with Pedro Pascal. Pascal was hilarious. The movie got a lot of laughs from my audience.

Re: The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent (2022) - S: Nicolas Cage as Nicolas Cage

I enjoyed this and got a few laughs... but it wasn't as over the top as I was expecting. The younger Nicky was great. Pascal was good too. It would make a good end film for any Cage-a-thon.

I didn’t remember Sharon Horgan was going to be in this, so that was a nice surprise. They didn't advertise any of the family stuff in the trailer.

at the David Gordon Green cameo scene. I had read that Cage originally asked David Lynch to do it, but he didn't want to participate due to COVID. Speaking of cameos... a bit of a missed opportunity to not have any real family members appear during the premiere. Sofia or Jason would've been funny.

This was a blast, even if I don't think it totally lived up to its promise. The stuff that hits really, really hits, but there are some stretches that felt kind of dull. That said, I would watch a Cage/Pascal buddy comedy every year until I die.

This was so much fun. I would watch an entire movie of them on an acid trip. I loved that they told you exactly where it was going, and it was still surprising.

Exactly my thoughts, although they wasted a lot of potential, they also made a lot things perfectly. The chemistry between Cage and Pascal was fantastic. My friends and I laughed a lot and I guess I will catch some of his classics again and Paddington 2.

I really enjoyed this. A lot of good laughs. The acid trip was hilarious. Pascal was great. Cage gets a role that reminds us that he can be a great actor when given good material. Fun movie.

The acid trip was the best. I thought this was really well made and enjoyable. Adaptation meets Hot Fuzz.

Caught this on a plane ride and loved it. The acid trip was great and I really enjoyed the fact that Nic played Nic; he didn't try to make himself more endearing and was pretty honest about his failures --- which, ironically, made him more endearing to me.

This was a lot of fun. I feel like it's been a while since I truly had fun watching a movie, so I really appreciate what was put together here.

My wife and I, approaching 50 yo with zero kids, watched Paddington 2 because of this movie.

And...we actually enjoyed it quite a bit. Wouldn't have really bothered otherwise, quite honestly.

Re: The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent (2022) - S: Nicolas Cage as Nicolas Cage

I thought this would just be a decent little time waster, but it is one of my favorite films I've seen lately.
I need to watch "Paddington 2".
Oh, and "The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari".

Edit: "The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari" is free on Tubi. Also, it looks like there was a remake in 2005, also on Tubi.

Re: The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent (2022) - S: Nicolas Cage as Nicolas Cage

I finally got around to watching this last night and really enjoyed it. It wasn’t perfect but it a fun, light comedy that never took itself too seriously. Cage and Pascal’s friendship was sweet and it was nice that they never veered away from that. “Nicky” was great, despite the terrible CGI. And he even got his own credit at the end.

Of all the Nicolas Cage movies referenced, one that wasn’t, Adaptation, was the one I thought this movie was referencing the most.

Nic Cage still has that ‘A’ List presence, IMO. I think he could still headline a blockbuster…Not that he went anywhere.

I never posted that I saw this after seeing The Bubble and I had my fill of Pedro.

Fun with reservations of Pedro overload.
