Wilford Brimley -- an iconic actor who was the face of Quaker Oats for years, as well as a spokesperson for diabetes education -- has died ... a rep tells TMZ. We're told Brimley passed away Saturday morning at his home in Utah. Sources with direct knowledge of Wilford's health tell us he was in an ICU wing of a hospital on dialysis, and very sick for days. |
Re: Wilford Brimley dead at 85
Always remember him from Cocoon and The Thing. :rip:

Re: Wilford Brimley dead at 85
Of course we all figured Wolford Brimley was at least 70 in Cocoon in 1985.

Re: Wilford Brimley dead at 85
"Now you want that mail, don't you Mr. Kramer?"
RIP |
Re: Wilford Brimley dead at 85
Fred Willard was older than Wilford Brimley? For some reason I always figured him as older.
either way, very sad, lot of memorable actors gone this year :( |
Re: Wilford Brimley dead at 85
Still amazing that he was 50 when they filmed Cocoon. I know they made him look older for the movie, but he still looked older in other movies around the same time.
Cocoon being 35 years old and Brimley just now dying at 85 sounds like a math error. |

Brimley played Deidre Hall’s father in law in Our House back in 1986. He was only 13 years older than her. |
Re: Wilford Brimley dead at 85
He's one of those guys who has always looked like a crotchety old man.
Here is at 44 in The China Syndrome. https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/dvdtalk...40e0dd0a91.jpg Great character actor. China Syndrome. The Thing. The Firm. Seinfeld. He was like go-to guy when you needed a mean old bastard. |

Like others have said, it’s amazing he was only 85 considering he’s looked old since at least the mid-1980s. Of course, he was also the face of Diabetes for the last 20+ years so I’m sure on some subconscious level, most of us thought he wasn’t in very good health for all these years as well. |
Re: Wilford Brimley dead at 85
I remember him as the coach in the Natural

Re: Wilford Brimley dead at 85

RIP Wilford Brimley
Loved him in Hard Target (1993) https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/dvdtalk...e1d4585c10.png |
Re: Wilford Brimley dead at 85
Everyone needs to check him out coming in at the end of Absence of Malice. Even if you don't watch the rest of the movie to know what is going on, watching him put everybody in their place is great.

Wilford Brimley
back in the day when he was shirtless in Coccoon, being a mountain main of sorts in the Ewoks 2 movie and being a weirdo cajun in Hard Target Thats what I still remember him from back then |

Re: Wilford Brimley dead at 85
He was so good in everything. Seinfeld as the Post Master General was classic. “Now, you want that mail don’t you Mr. Kramer?” “Yeah.” Just found some interesting nuggets on him. His dad was a postmaster and why he did role.

Re: Wilford Brimley dead at 85
My brother and I had this joke a while back in which he was a spokesman for tampons (because it was so bizarre). In the commercial he would say "it's the right thing to do and the sanitary way to do it" to a girl new to periods. At the end of the commercial, the girl's younger sister (about 8 years old) has been listening in and asks "grandpa, what's a tampon?" He replies, "eat your oatmeal."
