The Tax Collector (2020, D: Ayer) -- S: Bobby Soto, Shia LaBeouf
In Theaters, VOD and Digital HD August 7th Written and Directed by David Ayer Starring Bobby Soto, Cinthya Carmona, George Lopez and Shia LeBeouf Synopsis: David (Bobby Soto) and Creeper (Shia LaBeouf), are “tax collectors” for the crime lord Wizard, collecting his cut from the profits of local gangs’ illicit dealings. But when Wizard’s old rival returns to Los Angeles from Mexico, the business is upended, and David finds himself desperate to protect what matters more to him than anything else: his family.
David Ayer has been promoting this on social media and it had a big premiere at a Drive-In theatre in LA last night.
This looks pretty badass and Shia playing a badass looks interesting. I may have to rent this August 7th.

Supposedly, Shia got a real tattoo covering his entire chest for this.

^ In fact, I did. The morons that brought it down to 17% are still sore that Shia is playing a "brown face," character which he is not, but in this political climate - you can't tell these people shit. I bought the Digital 4K on iTunes and knocked it out this morning. I also watched Ayer's Street Kings. Hey, I'm an Ayer fan, so it's a given.

I'll need to check this out. Shia looks more Mexican than me. Perfectly fine with that.

Shia’s cauliflower ears are a nice touch for his character too.

I thought the same thing. You would have thought with the press it got it would be a major plot point. Turns out, this is not even his movie as he’s not the lead and I can’t remember a scene where the tattoo was discussed or shown.

I rented this weeks ago, but finally made the time to see it tonight.
It's actually not bad. For a super low budget Indie movie, this is actually one of David Ayer's better movies. It reminded me a little of Blood In, Blood Out: Bound by Honor from the 1990s. It's very grounded and feels like a story that could happen in South Central Los Angeles. Shia's part is relatively small. Bobby Soto is the main lead of this movie.
There's some really brutal shootouts and kills in this. Some people are literally beaten to a pulp in this.
The woman who plays David's (Soto) wife is pretty hot. Even the psycho murderer chick is also kind of sexy in a dark and sadistic way.

The ironic part, if true, is that it cost 30 million to make, so not quite a low budget movie at all.

Grabbing the 4k day one for this as I’m a big fan of Harsh Times and this looks like it has the same vibe.

BB has the steelbook on sale already for $12.99.
The movie was ok by the way. Nothing special.
