I stumbled across this Star Wars poster restoration, which was a fascinating process:

I like Criminal Content because Coby is such a babe. She's a model and actress, so she knows what's up. Her reactions are quite entertaining, too:

Double Toasted is a fun channel but I avoid their political videos. Check out their bad movie roasts of Stone Cold & Miami Connection.

I've been watching a lot of Horror short films. I'd always thought Youtube movies were just crappy amateur fan films. But there's tons of great professional films with good acting and decent budgets available for free. Here's some channels & playlists I follow.

There's some youtube-reactor discussion going on over at the Once Upon a Time in Hollywood thread and I found it more fitting to include it here (It is YouTube-related, after all) Bringing some of those quotes over:

I like reaction videos because it's a way of experiencing the film for the first time again, just through someone else's eyes. You can never see a move again for the first time, but this is as close as it gets.

I get that reaction videos wouldn’t be very exciting if people sat there stone-faced but normal movie watching reactions aren’t that animated either.

Another one I thought I had kept was one of those giant Mash-up reactions for The Godfather. I swear I did DL it, but I just cannot find it anywhere. Speaking of that, given that the uploader is clearly using the Uncut Patreon videos for those mash-ups, how did they get a hold of all those? Did they either pay or hack all those Patreon accounts? I've mentioned elsewhere that another reason why I love non-U.S.A .reactions is because of the different perspective. For instance, regarding Bloodsport, I'm sure I would have never known about Hong Kong's Walled City if it weren't for George (CineBinge) and even Mary Cherry pointed out a sound that only Australians would immediately recognize on her reaction to Mad Max. It's also interesting to hear how accurate or poorly foreign-spoken lines are to multilingual speakers (Bissflix)

It's hilarious watching girls go all gaga over the dog at the beginning of The Thing (except one who actually knew some Norwegian, and just calmly said, "oh, he said it's an alien.")

Be sure to watch her reaction to Cry-Baby. I swear, I thought she was gonna turn off the camera and just....well....enjoy herself to the sights of Johnny Depp. Hell, maybe she did.

Some other highlights: When Sgt Hartman sings "Ho Chi Minh is a son of a bitch" they all indignantly shout "Hey!" And when the marine picks up the IED in the child's toy one of the girls remarks "That's us Vietnamese, we're sneaky" Definitely a different perspective. |
Re: The YouTube thread - Movie edition
I've been getting hooked on reaction videos of young people discovering classic movies for the first time. I found a bunch of good Sergio Leone ones. I love how enthusiastic they are in their responses, pretty much like audiences were back when these films first came out. THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE UGLY has tons of reaction videos and I've watched a bunch of them already. All loving it.
Here are a couple of good ones on GBU: My question to you guys is about Patreon. The versions I'm watching on YouTube are condensed to about 45-50 min. and in each case the presenter tells us we can find the full versions on Patreon. I googled Patreon and went to the main web page and I'm pretty confused. How does one find and watch the videos that are posted there? Thanks. |
Re: The YouTube thread - Movie edition
My understanding of Patreon is limited but I believe you have to pay the membership fee for the person/content maker you want to follow. Then you will have access to all the content they post but ONLY their content. And done may even have different tier levels I think.
You have to have a different paid membership for each account you want to follow and they all charge different prices. |

Rocky Balboa-Little Marie's kiss for Rocky before the big fight. Do they find it creepy? (Regarding the age difference) or do they even find it disrespectful to Adrian? Top Gun-Maverick's handling of Goose's dog-tags for the last time. Oh man! The debates for Maverick's decision are legendary!!! Stand By Me-To see if they remember what the newspaper-headline says at the beginning. Tombstone-To see how many of them don't catch (Or forget) that Doc has TB. And I don't mean to bring up The Exorcist again, but man, it drives me nuts when they can't figure out Spoiler:
Regarding the Patreon side of things, I'm not signed up or subscribed to anyone who does these, but from what I've gathered from most reactions is that things do not often go smoothly: -You have to try to synch up your own copy with theirs (Sometimes they'll provide a timestamp) -The reactor may have to pause the stream for technical difficulties and you might never get back on track -Unbeknownst to the reactor, they may accidentally watch a shortened or extended version of the movie with their patrons scrambling going "wtf"! The Mash-Up videos (Which do contain their uncut reactions) are the ones I've been on the lookout for lately, but it has to be no more than 6 channels participating. I don't know what they're thinking when the uploader adds over 15 channels. How chaotic do you want to be?!?! |
Re: The YouTube thread - Movie edition
Two of my favs:
Sean Clark - Dude's house is something that will shame every collector here - he has actual screen used props everywhere. He also does film location visits as well. He also does a podcast "The Thing with Two Heads" with makeup artist Christopher Nelson (who also acted in some movies - he was Tommy in Kill Bill 2). Here he is showing off his recent Texas Chainsaw Massacre original screen used items - quick note, one of the items he unboxes is the hitchhiker's original worn in the film. the guy who played the hitchhiker was in Vietnam as well and those were his boots from the war - I'm surprised he gave those up : Talks from the crypt - just random, cool interviews with horror celebrities. |

StudioBinder has some great behind-the-scenes videos on the craft of film making and the film industry itself - highly recommended!

Re: The YouTube thread - Movie edition
Two channels I love which haven't been mentioned are Patrick Willems and Dan Olson / Folding Ideas
Patrick Willems still regularly puts out video essays on film topics. Dan Olson has veered into more diverse topics recently and rarely puts out videos but his back catalog is worth a view. Also his non movie related videos are great if any of the topics interest anyone. |
Re: The YouTube thread - Movie edition
I guess I need to get on board watching these reaction videos. They've never really been my favorite genre of youtube but a lot of y'all really like them.

Re: The YouTube thread - Movie edition
Movies with Mia has become my favorite YT channel for classic movie reaction videos. Unlike most other reactors I've seen, Mia comes prepared and has actually researched the films and their backstories before going into her first-time viewings. Just this morning I watched her reactions to:
THE BIG SLEEP (1946) THE MALTESE FALCON (1941) WHITE HEAT (1949) KING KONG (1933) Experiencing favorites that I've seen over 20 times each through the fresh perspective of a curious young first-time viewer is quite gratifying. Here's the link to her YT page: https://www.youtube.com/@MoviesWithMia |

You can see the ones who slightly alter the movie,.like showing it mirrored, or sped up. But it seems the biggest obstacle they face is the music, often they have to silence the soundtrack completely |
Re: The YouTube thread - Movie edition
Copyright is a weird thing. And a lot of times overreaching. Oddly enough mostly in terms of music. A lot of youtubers have to silence audio just because something is playing in the background. That's just absurd IMO. This I can kind of understand more though. If they show the whole movie.
