Bullet Train (2022, D: Leitch) S: Brad Pitt

Brad Pitt Commits To Board ‘Bullet Train’; David Leitch To Helm Sony Pictures Action Film

Brad Pitt is set to star in Bullet Train, the Sony Pictures action movie that just got as director David Leitch, the helmer of Deadpool 2 and Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw.

Zak Olkewicz wrote the script, based on the Japanese novel Maria Beetle by Kotaro Isaka. In the novel, five assassins find themselves on a fast-moving bullet train from Tokyo to Morioka with only a few stops in between. They discover their missions are not unrelated to one another. The question becomes, who will make it off the train alive and what awaits them at the terminal station?

Rick and Morty just mocked that premise in the new season.

I usually like Brad Pitt movies. So, good.

The 1975 Japanese movie called The Bullet Train has a great premise:

"A bullet train is threatened with a bomb onboard that will explode automatically if the train slows below 80 km/h unless a ransom is paid. As the train speeds ahead, police race to find the bombers and to learn how to defuse the bomb."

Somebody in Hollywood should seriously take that premise and make a blockbuster action movie out of of it. Maybe cast Keanu Reeves in the lead.

Michael Shannon Joining Brad Pitt in Sony's 'Bullet Train'
November 18, 2020 12:06pm by Aaron Couch

The assassin film is based on the popular Japanese book 'Maria Beetle.'

It's all aboard for Michael Shannon. The actor is joining the Brad Pitt assassin movie Bullet Train, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed. The Sony Pictures film has an ensemble cast that includes Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Brian Tyree Henry, Joey King, Zazie Beetz and Andrew Koji.

Filmmaker David Leitch, who last helmed the Fast & Furious spinoff Hobbs & Shaw, is in the director's chair for the contained action thriller, which is an adaptation of Kotaro Isaka's popular Japanese book Maria Beetle. The film centers on a group of assassins with conflicting motives on a train in Tokyo.

Fear Street scribe Zak Olkewicz penned the script. Kelly McCormick is producing Bullet Train through 87North and Antoine Fuqua is producing through his Fuqua Films. Brittany Morrissey is overseeing for Sony Pictures.

Shannon, a two-time Oscar nominee for Nocturnal Animals and Revolutionary Road, is in production on the Hulu series Nine Perfect Strangers. He will next be on screen in the coming-of-age drama Swing and the Michael Maren comedy Shriver.

Shannon is represented by CAA, Range Media Partners, and Morris, Yorn, Barnes, Levine, Krintzman, Runbenstein, Kohner & Gellman.

Yeesh. I loved A Star is Born, but that was her element. Action and real acting...yeesh.

Re: Bullet Train (2022, D: Leitch) S: Brad Pitt

“Bullet Train” went off with a bang at CinemaCon in Las Vegas on Monday.

The first-ever footage from the Brad Pitt action thriller was screened at CinemaCon, the annual convention of movie theater owners in Las Vegas, during an opening night presentation from Sony Pictures.

Directed by “Atomic Blonde” helmer David Leitch, the movie follows five assassins on a high-speed train who realize their assigned targets are related. The footage boasts the aesthetic we’ve come to expect from Leitch: high-contrast glamour with bareknuckle violence.

Anyone thinking this was Pitt’s attempt to slip into a Tom Ford suit and brandish a gun like a typical leading man, rest easy. His character, listed only as “Ladybug,” is a drifter rocking hiking boots and a faded tweed coat on Leitch’s gorgeous and claustrophobic train.

While the ensemble boasts stars like Sandra Bullock and Lady Gaga, the studio chose to bless the exhibitors with a clip of Pitt and global hip-hop star Bad Bunny. In his first substantive feature film role, the artist also known as Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio is a formidable opponent for Pitt.

Sporting a white pinstripe suit, killer boots and an edge weapon, Bunny and Pitt slap each other around a luxury cabin on the speeding train. It’s all fun and tussling over a briefcase until someone gets stabbed. The footage also included actor Hiroyuki Sanada as an ominous passenger.

Additional cast includes Joey King, Andrew Koji, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Brian Tyree Henry, Zazie Beetz, Michael Shannon and Logan Lerman.

The project is based on the book “Maria Beetle” by Kōtarō Isaka. “Bullet Train” is produced by Columbia Pictures, 87North Productions and Fuqua Films. Leitch is also taking on a producer role, alongside Antoine Fuqua, Kelly McCormick and Kat Samick.

“Bullet Train” will mark the first film that Bullock and Pitt have appeared in together, and is set for release on April 8, 2022.

Sounds a little like Smoking Aces - but from the sounds of it, stuff actually happens.

Yep.

Glad to see Silent Library is alive and well

Looks like Smokin' Aces on a train with actual action thrown in.

Feel like every time I see a trailer like this I end up disappointed in the movie itself. I'll check it out with low expectations

For a movie set in Japan and on a Japanese bullet train no less there are remarkably few Japanese in that trailer.

Because it’s shot entirely in Los Angeles and on green screen and sound stages. Probably limited amount of Japanese actors were available.

Re: Bullet Train (2022, D: Leitch) S: Brad Pitt

I thought this was going to be a straight forward action movie. Was a little surprised to see it’s turned out to look zanier like a Deadpool and Guy Ritchie movie.

I know it’s unlikely as most here aren’t big foreign film watchers, but has anyone seen the original Japanese Bullet train this was based on?

The one with Sonny Chiba? I don't think this is a remake of that. This is based on book.

The Hunted, film from the mid-90's, had a scene full of ninjas in a bullet train in Japan.
