The Outpost (2020, D: Lurie) -- S: Scott Eastwood, Caleb Landry Jones, Orlando Bloom

In theaters and on demand July 3rd! Based on true events, in this military thriller, a small unit of U.S. soldiers, alone at the remote Combat Outpost Keating, located deep in the valley of three mountains in Afghanistan, battles to defend against an overwhelming force of Taliban fighters in a coordinated attack. The Battle of Kamdesh, as it was known, was the bloodiest American engagement of the Afghan War in 2009 and Bravo Troop 3-61 CAV became one of the most decorated units of the 19-year conflict. Directed by award-winning filmmaker Rod Lurie (The Contender, The Last Castle) and adapted by Oscar-nominated screenwriting duo Paul Tamasy and Eric Johnson (The Fighter) the film stars Scott Eastwood, Caleb Landry Jones and Orlando Bloom with Jack Kesy, Cory Hardrict, Milo Gibson, Jacob Scipio, Taylor John Smith, Jonathan Yunger. Three troops who fought at COP Keating appear in the film including Medal of Honor recipient Ty Carter. The Outpost is based on The New York Times best-selling non-fiction book, The Outpost: An Untold Story of American Valor from CNN’s Jake Tapper.

This is out on streaming today.

It's a $7 rental or $15 purchase. And apparently this was originally supposed to open in theatres.

92% on RT so far.

Scott Movie Mantz loved it when I saw his review today. I'm going to go ahead and rent it today.

Watched this last night, thought it was really well done. I makes a nice bookend to "Black Hawk Down", another excellent (but sad/frustrating) modern war movie.

I rented this weeks ago, but finally made the time to watch it yesterday.

Wow, this was an intense movie. Very well done. There were a lot of characters to follow though. So it did get a little frenetic trying to keep up with who was who. Orlando Bloom and Scott Eastwood's characters were the main ones who I could keep up with.

The attack sequences were really well directed and executed. You really felt like you were in the heart of the battle. It was sad seeing at the end that the vast majority of the characters and their real life counterparts were killed in action.

If you enjoy war movies, this is worth a watch.

Uh, now I'm going to have to check this out. To me, Scott Eastwood kind of takes the wind out of anything serious, but I did like him in Fate of the Furious. But so far everyone seems to like it, and I love war movies.

This is on Netflix now for anyone who didn’t want to pay for a rental.

I have to say I was pleasantly surprised by this. It started out a little rough. I thought the use of the shaky, handheld camera was a little too distracting but it became less distracting and felt more under control as the movie progressed. I would have also preferred this was filmed in widescreen rather than 1.85:1 but I guess it was filmed this way to make the viewer feel like he/she was right in the middle of the action.

The first half started out a bit slow and I figured the director was going for a more “purposely uneventful” movie like Jarhead but once shit hit the fan it was much more reminiscent of Black Hawk Down. The last 45 minutes or so was just balls to the wall!

I like Scott Eastwood. To me, he has that “it” factor and shows off a great screen presence. I could see him starring in action movies like this going forward. I initially thought he was a bit wooden as an actor but think he’s improved quite a bit for this one. He has A LOT of his father’s facial expressions.
