This weekend at the local drive-in: Jaws/ET or Ferris Bueller/Clue!

I hadn’t been keeping up with what they have been playing, but I actually went into town today and passed the drive-in.

What a damn fine double-bill of double features! I may have to try to talk the family into going tomorrow night.

What are your local drive-ins playing?

I live in Arlington Virginia, two miles outside of Washington D.C. And there are two drive-in theaters within about an hour each direction. One is outside of Baltimore Maryland called Bengies. And they are showing "Onward" and "Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker" this weekend. And the other is the Family Drive-In in Stephens City Virginia (twin cinemas). One screen is showing "Grease" and "Footloose" and the other is showing "Sonic the Hedgehog" and "Ferris Bueller".

Awful selections:

Nutty Professor (Murphy) and Trolls World Tour

Anchorman and Spaceballs

Invisible Man and The Wretched

I love Anchorman but thats about it

hoping for something better next week like the op’s options

Re: This weekend at the local drive-in: Jaws/ET or Ferris Bueller/Clue!

The two that are closest to me are owned by the same company. One is 30-minutes away and the other one is about 40+ minutes away.

One Drive-In is playing:

Braums: The Boy II
Jumanji: The Next Level/Bad Boys For Life
The Hunt
The Dark Knight/The Dark Knight Rises
The Wizard of Oz/Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factor
Trolls World Tour/How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World

The other Drive-In is playing:

Braums: The Boy II
Gretel & Hansel
The Wretched
Bloodshot/Underwater
Jumanji: The Next Level/Bad Boys For Life
Surf's Up/The Angry Birds Movie
The Hunt/The Invisible Man
The Dark Knight/The Dark Knight Rises
The Wizard of Oz/Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factor

Yeah I think I'd go with that double bill just because Jaws is so great. The issue is I'm not a big ET guy. Of the films I'd rank them Jaws >>> Bueller >>>>>>> Clue >>> ET.

Wish there was a poll because thats a pair of double bills I would be happy seeing either of.

The one we go to is a small one with a double feature each weekend. This weekend is Spies in Disguise and The Call of the Wild

The one nearest to me did The Wizard of Oz last night. Tonight they’re doing Twister and tomorrow The Goonies. I worked last night and again tonight. I probably won’t make it tomorrow either, but I’m not a huge fan of The Goonies anyways. Hoping there are more cool showings throughout the summer.

Meh, just checked my local drive-in. They’re playing, Minions/Jurassic World and Jumanji: The Next Level/Men in Black.

I think I’ll pass for now. Hopefully they have some quality older movies in the coming weeks. I would love to see Jaws at a Drive-in.

My local drive-in is doing:

Bad Boys For Life and The Wretched

The Hunt and The Invisible Man

Trolls World Tour and ET

They've been great with doing retro features for years now, so I was a little disappointed in this line-up, as nothing screamed out as a great drive-in double bill.

It all seems to family oriented. Where's the Porky's marathon? Hills Have Eyes/Wrong Turn? That's what makes drive-ins fun.

I thought it was strange that E.T. was the second movie. Last week they had Superman (1978) and Batman (1989) as a double feature.

My local drive-in is playing E.T. and Back to the Future on one screen. The owner of the drive-in has a DeLorean and a group of DeLorean owners are bringing their cars and coming today.
The other screen is playing a Bella Thorne move Infamous and a Kevin James horror movie Becky.

A drive-in double feature of Jaws and Close Encounters of the Third Kind would be da bomb!

And I would double up ET with Gremlins.

That would be a sweet double feature. I’m hoping the drive-in near me gets Batman.

I didn’t think about it, but yeah ... ET should play first for the kids ...

D’oh! I just gave Brack a like for that pairing!

I didn’t even know they were back to double-features and being open during the week. Like I said, I haven’t been paying attention.

For anyone who has a West Wind Drive-In near them, they are doing an entire Shark-themed month of films!

One of our local pop-up drive ins is doing Bill and Ted 3 which is cool. They've done Shaun of the Dead, Big Lebowski, Do the Right Thing, Get out, Rocky Horror and Polyester with the scratch and sniff cards and a new greeting from John Waters among others.

Who the hell wants to sit in their car for like 6 hours watching movies, on a crappy screen, with a mediocre sound system, probably from the back seat, with a partially obscured view? Fuck all that. I'll happily pay more for one single damn reclining seat in a real fucking theater with current A/V technology.

Depends on your expectation, I guess. When we go with the kid, we take inflatable chairs and sit on the grass, bring a cooler of beer/sodas, maybe pack a picnic, and listen to a portable radio with the movie sound. Relaxing under the stars, eating and drinking and watching a good movie is a fun night for us.

A) Drive-ins are the way many of us originally saw some of these films, so it's also nostalgic.
B) There are no theaters with recliners local to me. Just shitty, uncomfortable seats with limited leg room, where you're surrounded by people that make as much noise as possible when eating.
C) However, my car seats do recline.
D) Why are you sitting in the back seat?
E) Covid 19
F) Why would you come into a thread discussing what's playing at local drive-ins to bitch about drive-ins?

Most people tailgate at the drive-in theaters around here.
