Movies you let sit on the shelf, unwatched, popped in and loved?
I had no idea what to watch. had this on digital and the UK SE Blu, never got around to it, popped it in (probably bc of all the talk about series) knowing very little about it and was just blown away.

blind purchase, sat on my shelf for about 3 years. Finally popped it in last month. One of the most beautfiul, heartbreaking films I've ever seen.

Le Samourai. Sat in a box for 4 years or something like that. Thought it was awesome noir/paranoia

Found a copy of A Mighty Wind on the giveaway table in our condo building years ago and it sat unwatched for years and when we did I thought it was absolutely brilliant and heartwarming.

It was not on a shelf but I found a naughty movie on VHS hiding in the bushes while cleaning a rental house around 1990.

A little bit different, but The Wages of Fear was a 100% blind buy for me in 2009. A few years later, it happened to be playing in a movie theater, so I decided to see it there. Now it’s one of my all time favorites. I’ve finally watched the Blu-ray a number of times since.

"Smooth Talk" with Laura Dern from 1985 was a movie that came with a lot-purchase of DVDs I bought several years ago. Never thought much of it at the time but it's a really good film.

Unforgiven - Knew it was great but wasn't much into Westerns. Bought it the day it hit DVD (I bought basically every new DVD on Tuesday back then) and didn't watch for close to a year.

My first thought was that I rarely let a movie sit on my shelf. I usually watch them pretty quickly after buying but then I realized that I’ve had a handful of Criterions that I took awhile to watch. Mostly Kurosawa films. Rashomon and Yojimbo/Sanjuro come to mind. All three turned out to be excellent.

Intolerance. 3 hour silent movie, just couldn’t do it. Finally watched it because I wanted to watch it before I listened to the Unspooled podcast talk about it. It was too long, but 2 of the 4 sequences were great, so really glad I watched it.

El Orfanato (The Orphanage) surprised the hell out of me and I loved it. Another I kept on shelf for years, even imported DVD from somewhere. Think it is a SteelBook. Think I put the blu in it. Ha. But great movie.
