Re: Unhinged (2020) -- S: Russell Crowe
Stopped again at my theater today and they were open. But man, they are struggling. As they are scanning my unlimited pass, they tell me they don't have soft drinks at the moment (wasn't ordering concessions, but that's bad news). I'm the only one in my theater for this film. 10 minutes in, the lights in the theater are turned all the way up and what looks to be a pest control guy comes in and heads to the front of the theater. I kept on watching the film but had an eye on him thinking he would eventually notice the theater wasn't empty. He did eventually turn around and head to the exit flipping a light switch off on the way out.
As for the film, it was everything I had expected it to be which means it was simply ok. I figured I'd need to disengage my brain a bit and not question every little thing. That worked for the most part, except I kept wondering why the son rode in the back seat in all the car scenes. I could point out other flaws, but I was happy to be back in the theater. When I left the theater, there were only 2 other cars in the parking lot. And I noticed 2 employees behind the counter so the entire building might have been empty after the pest control guy left.
To answer the question posed in the spoiler (and my answer gives nothing away) above: Crowe's character says something shortly after the incident about how he zoned out for a minute. Though before the light turned green, I'm almost certain there was an older lady (pedestrian, panhandler, etc) near the vehicle.

I think kids are supposed to sit in the backseat because they could be seriously injured or killed by a deplored airbag.

I get that but the young man was nearly 15 years old when this was filmed last summer. Most states suggest 12 or 13 and under ride in the back. This kid definitely seemed like a teenager in the movie and it felt odd. A minor criticism, but it stood out to me.

Crowe isn’t wearing a fat suit is he? God he looks worse than I’ve ever seen him. Holy shit. He’s pudgy and actually rotund. Wtf? I know he goes up and down, mostly up lately, but Jesus. And what a terrible movie. Joy Ride was so much better, even then though unidentified psycho, but this is straight up awful.

At this point, all he needs to do is shave his head and he could play Rob Reiner (and likewise, all Rob Reiner needs is a wig to star in Gladiator 2)

I really liked Caren Pistorius in this. Hope to see more from her.
Apparently, there is a pricing error on iTunes where you can buy the digital for $5.99.

This is now at Red Box. I rented it tonight since I missed it in the theatre.
Let's just say it's a very unpleasant movie. A lot of sadistic violence. This was definitely a departure for Crowe. And yes he looked very unhealthy carrying all that weight and that Santa Claus belly. Holy shit.
I also liked the lead actress Caren Pistorius and looks like she's essentially an unknown. With a better script, she has potential. Her character made a lot of dumb mistakes.
They did do a good job making it feel tense, especially with the car chases and making it take place over the course of 1 hellish day.
The BD has a 27 minute documentary on the making of the film and they also go into that this movie was the 1st one to be released during the pandemic.

Crowe was barely it and it was a average forgettable movie.
It will probably be in the Lifetime rotation in two years.

Lifetime? What are you smoking? This is an R rated movie with grisly violence. Some guy got his head smashed to a fucking pulp.

They can edit those scenes and Lifetime is not exactly the Disney Channel where it is family wholesome entertainment.

For the record, Lifetime doesn't show any theatrical movies. Every movie they show is an original low budget TV movie.
Unhinged will probably head to HBO Max in a few months.

Unhinged is like the old Changing Lanes movie. Dark drama thriller that ends up goofy because of the plot.
These types of movies really necessary? Are they trying to be like Snakes on a Plane?

Sorry I did not know Unhinged was a masterpiece and the Dark Knight of 2020.
Lifetime showed a bunch of theatrical movies last Saturday.

Re: Unhinged (2020) -- S: Russell Crowe
Saw this on a plane ride last week and holy hell is it awful. Between how laughably stupid the protagonist was and how unlikeable EVERY single person is... it kind of overshadows Crowe's obesity and the nonsensical plot. I mean, are there cops in that state??
