Yeah, I need to start googling these things first. Irony. But is still sounds weird that this very foreign sounding and conspicuous looking guy almost always plays a guy with the most generic-sounding names in his movies.

At least give him a name akin to something like “Reiner Braus” once in a while.

Somehow as a Schwarzenegger fan I’ve actually never seen The Running Man. Need to at some point.

My kid and I watched Predator and Running Man as a double-feature recently. They're both fun, but boy, Predator shows what a good director can do - RM is more a cheesy entertainment, but Predator just blows it off the screen in terms of pacing, mood and characterisation. (Although Richard Dawson is just astonishingly good in RM, considering his TV game show host background it's an amazing little nasty satire/takeoff on his career he does.) It's interesting that such different movies came out in '87.

it's all about the one liners. this was a classic for me back in the day. saw it with father in theater. we saw most of his and Sly's in theater. this is a gem. Richard Dawson playing himself was priceless. he chews up the scenery and was that movie.

Why So Blu?

Last Stand was awesome -- it was also directed by Kim Jee-woon, who directed I Saw the Devil, The Good, The Bad, and The Weird. Hell, Johnny Knoxville pretty much plays the "Weird" character and even wears the same hat. It sucked that it bombed in theaters.

The Last Stand was pretty good. I haven’t watched it in a while, but I remember thinking it was a fun comeback role for Arnold at the time. Sabotage is a pretty good one for his later career too.

Yeah I hated End of Days and Collateral Damage. I thought The Last Stand was pretty good though as a comeback.

I too agree about The Last Stand and Sabotage -- both were pretty decent.

Did anyone see either Aftermath or Maggie? A couple more movies he did recently that didn't generate much buzz.

By "second-tier," I assumed we were referring to budget/tentpole status and not (necessarily) box office performance.

I thought it was in terms of respect. He was in some fine movies, and a bunch of pretty-good movies. Second tier would be the second group.

I couldn’t get into Aftermath. It seemed like it would have been a Lifetime movie had Arnold not been in it.

As far as second tier movies, I agree with Nick. It’s more out of respect. Terminator, T2, Predator and True Lies are in a class all of their own.

Made our work at Warner Digital look good when I was there. We did all the rail gun and x-ray sighting. Oh, we got stuck with changing all the Cyrex logos to Cyrez because of a trademark dispute. Good job WB Clearances.

That's my exact memory too. I think it was also that movie that really showed me how tiresome the generic 80's/90's action movie genre could be outside of a few classics.
