It makes it that much easier for me since I couldn’t even tell you what the sequels were about. I vaguely remember that terrible CGI fight with all the Agent Smiths, some creepy looking albino twins, and the rave orgy but that’s it and not in any context.

Re: Movies that you pretend they dont exist

Alien 3 (and beyond)
Halloween 5 (and beyond)
The Force Awakens
The Last Jedi
The Rise of Skywalker
Highalnder II (and beyond)
Terminator 2 (and beyond; though it kind of depends. I generally believe that the sequels, even the beloved 2, are surplus to requirements)
Robocop III
Poltergeist III
Return of the Living Dead II,IV,V (III is actually rather good)
Texas Chainsaw Massacre The Next Generation
Jaws 3 (and beyond)
DCEU movies (Man of Steel, Dawn of Justice, Suicide Squad, Wonder Woman, Justice League, Aquaman, Birds of Prey). Warners so completely botched that project it's hard to watch any of them now. I'm considering selling off my Target digibooks.

Re: Movies that you pretend they dont exist

The thread title can be misleading since it could refer to any movie you don't care to watch.

Back to the Future 3

I did not care if they went back to the old west.

I and 2 were perfect and should have ended after Part II.

It should have ended with Marty stuck in the 50's?

Re: Movies that you pretend they dont exist

No the thread title is not misleadin, Jeffboy.

There are movies that I just pretend that they dont exist. Why? Well have you seen them where they strat off the main path of what the first movie was about etc.

Like I said, I pretend CHUD 2 doesnt exist because it ends up as a stupid goofy zombie movie

Re: Movies that you pretend they dont exist

Something like Back to the Future Part III is an odd answer if you like the other two. I mean they’re all so interconnected, and it’s another case where the second film leaves a huge cliffhanger where it would be weird to skip over the third. I can see if a person likes it the least of the three, but it isn’t like it’s some awful film.

I know he was EP on that. Usually an EP does not have any hands on involvement or creative control other than maybe giving some advice and symbolically giving a "seal of approval." Having JC as an EP is also a good marketing tool.
Carpenter was co-producer, co-writer, helped with some direction, and composer for Halloween 2 & 3.

Re: Movies that you pretend they dont exist

- The Matrix was a standalone movie, not a trilogy.
- Star Wars Episodes I - III don't exist, and given enough time to ruminate on them, I have a feeling VII - IX are eventually going to cease to exist for me as well, disappointing as that is.
- The "Jurassic" franchise consists only of part one (which is classic) and Jurassic World, which is fun.
- Alien and Aliens, the end
- Batman (1989) and Batman Returns are set in one universe, while Batman Forever and Batman and Robin are in another, forgotten universe.
- There has only been one Ghostbusters movie.
- Terminator and T2, the end
- In the X-Men franchise, Apocalypse and Dark Phoenix don't exist. (I'm one of the few who likes Last Stand.)

There should be a TV thread for this as well, so I can say that seasons 4 and 5 of Arrested Development never happened.

Re: Movies that you pretend they dont exist

I don't care for any Batman movie in the 90's after Batman 1989 and Batman Returns.

Batman Forever was boring and we don't need to talk about Batman and Robin.

Before that movie was released, my idea for the sequel was...

The guys are forced by their wives/girlfriends to attend a coed baby shower. They get blitzed and blackout again. And then they wake up... Hangover Part 2 shenanigans begin.

As a kid, I was a HUGE fan of Gremlins. Had the plush Gizmo, a t-shirt, ate the cereal, etc.By the time Gremlins 2 finally came out, I was a teenager, but still excited to see it. I walked out of the theater scratching my head. I didn't like it.

As an adult, I "get" it more. It's a huge tonal shift and doesn't sit well next to the original. But as basically a self-referential yet standalone comedy, it really does work. It's hilarious. I still prefer the original, but it's like apples and oranges to compare the two. My 11-year-old son likes part two better.

Yeah, both those sequels didn’t really need to happen. I don’t hate them, but they’re one time watches at most. The first is still a pretty legitimately funny movie if you ask me.

I liked Gremlins 2 as a kid, and I didn't care about the huge tonal shift. It is weird to me that so many sequels back then didn't really play it that safe: Aliens, Terminator 2, Gremlins 2, Highlander 2, Evil Dead 2 (and then Army of Darkness), Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome etc. all dramatically changed storyline and even genre, to varying degrees of effectiveness.
