Re: Movies that are pure fun? (especially during times of crisis)
sounds enticing, but i would like to give the movie a go again first, maybe switch back and forth for a bit, but i don't listen to commentaries much, though that does sound fun...

UHF. I have been a fan since it came out when I was in high school, and my kid finds it hilarious as well, even if he doesn’t (yet) recognize most of the movie references and parodies.

If I’m feeling down, I like to watch Strictly Ballroom. It’s totally goofy and makes me feel better every time I watch it.

I put on "Meatballs" for my daughter and she loved it! It's a great film from the care-free era of the late 1970s/early 80s timeframe. I guess for my daughter it's strange seeing people engaging in fun activities and hi-jinks without the use of technology.

love Meatballs! and they almost wrote Bill Murray out of movie. he didn't have many scenes, was supposed to do one day of shooting or something. that would have been a mistake...

I'd be curious to hear what she thinks of Wet Hot American Summer. I'm also curious as to why I even care about what the daughter of a person I don't even know thinks, but that's Covid-19 cabin fever talking. Anyway, as someone who watched a few summer camp movies growing up, I appreciated WHAS. I wonder what someone who (probably) just saw a summer camp movie for the first time thinks.

I have a soft spot for Shoot 'Em Up. It's a fun, turn your brain off, ultra-violent, live action cartoon and always makes me smile.
Lots of other good recommendations here too.

Beverly Hills Cop. This is just pure fun from beginning to end. Murphy at his 80’s best in my opinion. The comedy, the action, the pure 80’s action fun. The songs, Faltermeyer score. Just great. This is making me happy. Think this was his breakout, even though 48 Hrs. and Trading Places before and while great as well. I think this original BHC put him on the map big time...

I’m also going with Top Gun. Saw whole thing in bits and pieces on cable recently and it’s just another 80’s classic. Another Faltermeyer classic. These movies just won’t be made anymore. 80’s was such a gem of no brain all brawn classics...

I'm excited for the new remastered 4k release coming out. I always watch Top Gun and Saving Private Ryan on Memorial Day weekend.

TG is just endlessly enjoyable. Classic and I am eager for new installment whenever it comes out. Betcha it’ll look great in 4K. Wasn’t so crazy about the 3D blu. Not a great conversion...
