When are we going to see the next Star Wars trilogy?

it's gonna happen. so when will they have this new, Skywalker trilogy with Rey and so forth? i mean we have had enough, but Rise of Skywalker certainly doesn't scream "The End". and well money is the name of the game and they will, so how far off are we? 5? 10? 15? years? i think sooner. before Rey and and Finn get too old, if Finn will even be in it. no more ties to past. just move forward. they will...

I voted "never gonna happen" because I just want them to stop.

I hope it'll "never happen" until Disney cleans house at Lucasfilm.

Don’t care at this point.

It was hard to decide between less than 5 years or 5-10 years, but either way I think it’s just a matter of time. I do hope that if/when it happens it explores a different era of the universe and doesn’t include any characters we’ve already seen. I think a prime area to explore is the Jedi/Mandalorian War that occurred about 1000 years before A New Hope. And now is the time to do it, while The Mandalorian tv show is still popular and making casual fans more interested in wider lore like Mandalore and the Darksaber. And since that era has The Old Republic, it could work as a stepping stone into other lore like The Sith War, Darth Bane, the origin of the Rule of Two, etc.

I new trilogy will eventually happen. A new trilogy with Rey and Finn? Nope.

Rey, Finn, and Poe are nowhere near as loved as Han, Luke, and Leia. No one will be clamoring for a reunion of those characters anytime soon. Hell, in 10 years they’ll be all but forgotten.

Skywalker is done. Star Wars isn't.

They've really only made one great movie out of all of them. And one good trilogy. I don't care if they ever make another one.

I keep hearing from various outlets about how Disney is focusing on creating content for their streaming service, so I figure that's where Star Wars is going to live for the foreseeable future. Even Rian Johnson's future SW films (should they ever come to fruition) could very well be Disney+ exclusives to lure in more/maintain existing subscribers.

RJ's Star Wars movies won't happen.

I voted 2075.

The current characters from the new trilogy are done for theatrical movies. I expect Disney will attempt to rebuild the fanbase with a string of television series.

The brand makes too much money to be done at the box office. I'd give it 4-5 years before we see another "major" Star Wars Trilogy franchise. Might get smaller movies like Rogue One for the next few years.

The people that managed the Disney trilogy will not be making another major trilogy.

He apparently has yet to get an order to stop from Disney. That could very well mean that he'll be 'developing' his SW project until the end of time so the films never see the light of day, but stranger things have happened, especially since Disney+ wants to bulk up on original content.

Re: When are we going to see the next Star Wars trilogy?

If it wasn't for The Mandalorian, I'd say it was time for the franchise to be put to rest forever. But The Mandalorian proves that, in the right hands, there may still be hope in that universe.

Having said all that, the prequel and sequel trilogy, instead of making the OT look good by comparison, has revealed the flaws in the OT in a damaging way, IMO. I think some of the classic, nostalgic luster the OT once had has been stripped away.

Re: When are we going to see the next Star Wars trilogy?

I prefer TV shows over movies (for any franchise, not just Star Wars). So when they continue, I hope it's more TV series on Disney+.

The TV budget isn't as nice as movies, but you get like 8-10 hours of content (every year) vs. 2 hours from a movie (every two years)

Re: When are we going to see the next Star Wars trilogy?

Disney hasn't moved their SW release dates yet, so I do happen to agree with Robert Meyer Burnett that they have transitioned the Obi-Wan series from streaming to be the 2022 film. That was to be the start of a new trilogy (from the GoT producers)... but that will simply start two yrs later and come out in 24, 26 and 28.
