Re: COVID-19 Virus -- Movie related news

Kino Lorber is doing a split profit streaming thing with arthouse theaters. Our local theater was scheduled to show Bacurau on March 27th, now Kino has a site setup to allow streaming for $12 (5 day rental) with a 50/50 split to the theater. Kinda cool.

Re: COVID-19 Virus -- Movie related news

So we all see what’s going on with current releases, and in the coming weeks I’m sure we’ll get a better idea to what summer is going to look like but what is the effect on movies in development?

Are studios going to put a hold on producing new movies in the near future and just release the current ones they’ve had to sit on? This seems like it’s going to have a ripple effect that’s going to last for years.

Most studios and production companies have halted production on everything already.

Can't wait for the weather to warm up enough that I can get the screen and new projector out so we can sit in the back yard and watch movies!

The CEO of AMC says in this interview that they need a loan badly to stay in business. They have 0 money coming in.

As soon as they are able to re-open, he says they can easily repay the loan.

Alright let's just stick to actual movie news. I know we tend to go off topic sometimes.

More Arthouse stuff is available via the profit sharing between your local arthouse theater and the distributors, they're $10 - $12. Titles right now are Corpus Christi, The Wild Goose Lake, Saint Frances and Bacurau -- and I'm sure there are a few others.

Finally... someone staked August. WW1984 could’ve cleaned up well 12/18 too.

I knew about the Kino Lorber titles, but not about the Film Movement or Oscilloscope titles.

You can find where these films are "virtually screening" on the distributor's page for the films.

Film Movement has a few more movies being virtually screened on their "in theaters" page:

A24 will no longer be releasing Rose Glass‘s horror film Saint Maud in theaters on April 10th, which would have been Easter weekend. It will be released at a later date.

At this time, a new date has not yet been decided upon.

Re: COVID-19 Virus -- Movie related news

For those lucky enough to work in the business of cinema, the third week of March holds a special place on the calendar. It means film, music, friends, and food. It means, in other words, South by Southwest!

Each year since our founding, O-Scope attends, eager for the chance to watch countless films, eat countless tacos, and shake countless hands.

We were devastated to not have that chance this year...

SXSW has long been a champion of short films. Shorts are a true distillation of filmmaking. When a creator premieres their short film at SXSW, they don’t do so expecting to make a big flashy deal. They just want to be seen.

Oscilloscope Laboratories and Mailchimp are so proud to help realize the dreams of these short filmmakers, by providing a platform to share their vision with the world. To connect with and feel the camaraderie of the SXSW community. And to know that their hard work will not go unnoticed.

They will be seen.

Please enjoy the SXSW 2020 Official Short Film Selections, free of charge. And please share this platform with your friends! While nothing can recreate the experience of premiering a film at the South by Southwest Film Festival, we'd be remiss if we didn't try to give these filmmakers the satisfaction of sharing their blood, sweat, and tears with you all.

Much love,

Oscilloscope Laboratories & Mailchimp
