Movie theaters in Kansas are cleared to open on Friday. I'm excited as one of the local chains B & B Theaters might be reopen as early as next week. It'll be fun to see what retro programming they might show.

2021 Academy Awards may be postponed.
Whatís weird is that article seems to never address WHY the Oscars are likely to be postponed. Because they don't think people will be allowed to gather together by then, because they don't know if there will be enough movies released by then to have a competitive field, because they think it will be too soon post pandemic to put together a show or for some other reason.

My assumption is just lack of product. Shame, since Sonic is the front runner for Best Picture right now.

Our local drive-in opened a couple of weeks ago. For some odd reason they are just open on the weekends though. And of course, the weather went to shit once they opened.

One near me opened last weekend. This coming weekend they're showing:
- Trolls World Tour / Call of the Wild
- Sonic the Hedgehog / Back to the Future
- Jurassic World / Mean Girls

Right now, they're making everyone watch the movies from their cars. Typically, patrons bring lawn chairs and blankets and sit out on the lawn behind their cars. I'm hoping they will allow for that again very soon.

Wonder if the Razzies will be postponed also? The announcement of this year's winners already came much later than usual.

Re: COVID-19 Virus -- Movie related news

One (somewhat) independently-owned theater here in Austin has re-opened. They are showing a couple retro family films, and movies that were released early in 2020 (and already available to watch at home).
I appreciate that there are people who are absolutely desperate to get out and go to a movie, and this seems designed to cater to them.
Nothing to make you say "I want to see that!"

Have English-language movies started shooting again anywhere in the world yet? If not, is there a timetable for when they will resume?
How about post-production work in a studio setting?

From what I've read it's mostly foreign productions that are starting up again.

Atlanta is however getting ready to allow filming again in July.

Hollywood is hoping for July-August to begin shooting again, but fall may be more realistic:

For post-production work, I don't know why they'd stop WFH anytime soon if it's currently working. This pandemic is far from over, and the re-openings are all about managing risk, which means that for the foreseeable future, anyone that can WFH should continue to do so. This benefits themselves as well as reducing the risk of those who have to venture out to work.

Cineworld will reopen theatres in July pending restrictions being lifted. In case you weren’t aware, they are the parent company of Regal, based in the U.K.

Spike Lee apparently said he won't work again or attend any movies until there is a vaccine.

I mean, he's currently working finishing, Da 5 Bloods. I assume he means he won't shoot anything else.

And as far as not going to a movie theater until there's a vaccine, while I don't doubt his sincerity, I do wonder if he would make that statement if he wasn't now making movies for Netflix.

Yeah he was supposed to shoot a film this summer, but he's put that on indefinite hold.

I really miss the drive in in Dallas,Or.Only went a few times in the summer, but it was fun,and the movies in the parks in and around my town might not happen this summer.

Oregon winery opens drive-in movie theater amid coronavirus pandemic

Movie-goers are asked to stay in their cars for the film's duration. There will be a 20-minute break midway through the movie to use the restroom, but public restrooms will not be available due to safety concerns. People will have to drive to find a trusted bathroom.
yeah like that is really going to work. Just do like they do in some other countries or SF. Just relieve yourself in pubic or invest in a 5 gallon bucket... and not to close to your vehicle.

Theaters wonít reopen en masse until there are new movies to show. No new movies = no reason to open.

Re: COVID-19 Virus -- Movie related news

I actually got an e-mail from Regal and they are planning to show some catalog content and it was a survey asking the level of interest in seeing it there.

They said they would charge no more than $5 for it.

The movies they asked about my interest level were Clueless, Pretty Woman, the films of Christopher Nolan and a few more. So if they manage to reopen in July, it sounds like the empty screens will be filled with older content.

Well, this is interesting. Cinemark won't require, but will encourage patrons to wear masks, but all employees will.

Re: COVID-19 Virus -- Movie related news

Wonder what the new landscape will look like for all the films with delayed releases. Maybe more will consider VOD now rather than waiting to see what theaters are still around when the dust settles.
