This is where it all started for my generation:

But that was probably influenced by the Japanese Manga Berserk.

As I already mentioned the Diablos in the first trailer looks awesome, as does the Rathalos in the newest trailer.

It's really cool that in the new trailer, Milla Jovovich is using the Dual Blades.

Even though the Great Sword & Bow are shown in the poster & film, I thought this film was going to be Anderson shoving in a ton of military weapons that aren't used in the series.

Still think the film is going to be shit but will show up to see all things (actually) Monster Hunter related on-screen.

That’s exactly what I was thinking when I wrote that. It’s a totally practical weapon.

I'd rather have Shadow of the Colossus. But hey, Sony didn't pay for production costs on this.

You'd think after Resident Evil he was done murdering video games, yet here we are.

My son’s a huge fan of the series but it’s not worth a trip to the theater during a pandemic. I’ll probably get it digitally though - just so he can tell me every time something recognizable comes up.

I haven't played this game, but I am somewhat familiar with the premise from looking at stuff online, and I did play the first RE game. That said, it seems that Anderson likes to take the video game worlds and drop characters that have nothing to do with them into stories created to take place in the world but not be straight up adaptations. I really don't understand why they can't just adapt the stories of the games, unless it doesn't allow for the casting of his wife.

Why is the Chinese trailer so much better than the US trailer... and actually makes it seem like Monster Hunter?

Apparently film was pulled and banned in China over a line in the movie.

In the film a guy jokingly looks at his dirty knees and asks "do you know what kind of knees these are? they're chi-knees" or something to that effect and China ruled it racist.

This really isn't any different from "Mexi-Can't" versus "Mexi-Can" in Once Upon a Time in Mexico....which I found hilarious.

I'm guessing the Twitter mob will go back and cancel Robert Rodriguez at some point (it's probably on their agenda).

Stuckmann watched it via screener and gave it a D+ he basically said it was a typical Paul WS Anderson movie.

I won't be able to see this until it hits digital or Red Box. But, I certainly will not be paying PVOD prices for this.

Eh, standard fare Anderson has its place. Passable visuals, muddled story, easy to digest.

That means I will probably find it tolerable. I rent when available.

I knew nothing about this before I saw it, but as I was watching I wondered who would cast Jovovich as an Army Ranger. Then the end credits rolled...oh, her husband. There are a few entertaining moments, but it's not anything particularly worth watching, even as dumb fun. Sure it's dumb, but it's not fun.

This, basically. I wasn’t expecting much and I knew what I was in for. It was worth the Redbox rental.

I thought the first half rocked. The score is cool and the sound mix was well done. My speakers were getting a workout. The second half... eh.

Re: Monster Hunter -- based on the video game (2020, D: Paul W.S. Anderson) S: Jovovich, Jaa, Pearlman

I rented this from Red Box last night and thought it was pretty entertaining for the most part. It was a pretty standard Paul WS Anderson sci-f-fantasy like his Resident Evil movies. The monster & creature effects were pretty good.

Was this intended to be a series of movies? Because that ending clearly left things open for a sequel that likely won't happen.

Thought this was horrible. It felt like no one involved was a fan of the game series. They were handed a piece of paper with some themes/items from the game and they slapped some overly generic action plot on top of it. Army Rangers in the world of MH? Really?

Redbox rental. It was okay time waster for $1.50. I was definitely spoiled by Love and Monsters. Now that was a great movie.
