this looks terrific! Great cast but I have to worry about Christian Bale losing and gaining weight the way he does for these roles.

This does look terrific. I have no doubt that with his recent streak of great ones, this won’t be right there with them.

Yeah, it looks like David O’Russell isn’t quite the thing anymore.
This will make no money and win no awards. I didn’t think American Hustle was all that good either.

Out this week. Reviews have been out a few days and the RT score has been dropping: https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/amsterdam_2022
Disappointing. Not sure if I will see this in theatres or not. If I have time, maybe.

Disappointed by the reviews. Had planned to see it tonight but bailed after learning it was apparently bad
Might do an afternoon matinee this weekend

Eh. Still want to see. I remember people complaining about Wes Anderson movies being a parody of Wes Anderson movies. I don’t subscribe to that criticism. I love getting something specific and unique from an auteur.

I actually rather enjoyed this movie....for about 20 minutes. After a somewhat flat-footed beginning, the movie flashbacks to how Bale, Robbie (who has never looked better) and Washington's characters first meet and later settle down in Amsterdam where they form a kind of Jules and Jim style relationship that managed to really draw me into the narrative. Had the movie stuck to following these three characters and their personal lives it could have made for quite an entertaining film.
Unfortunately, once the story returns to the present, we are stuck with the slow unwinding of a conspiracy plot that is so uninvolving and devoid of any tension or sense of danger that it completely sinks the rest of the movie. Russell tries hard to make the plot relevant to our current political and social climate, but the messaging is so heavy handed and the pacing is so glacial with so many uninteresting supporting characters (though Anya Taylor-Joy is a welcome sight, as always) that I was begging the movie to wrap things up with about half an hour left. At 90 minutes long, Amsterdam might have made for an amusing misfire, but at 2 hours 14 minutes, it's an excruciating endurance test.

Apparently, this won’t even open to $10mil for the weekend. $80mil budget plus marketing. Not good.

Didn’t Russell admit to sexually assaulting his teenage niece? Why isn’t Hollywood boycotting this pretentious douchebag?

Sucks to hear all the bad reviews. After first seeing the cast and trailer, this jumped to the top of my list. I’ll still check it out when it’s on streaming at some point. It has to be almost hard to make a stinker with that cast of talent.

Ouch! This showed up in my Facebook newsfeed. I couldn't agree more with her comments on John David Washington. I've been saying this about him for the past few years. I will watch this film btw when it's streaming for free.
