Oh, for fuck’s sake, man. We’re talking about THIS movie. This is a murder mystery set in reality. We’re not talking about Harry Potter or Star Wars. I didn’t realize I had to specify that I was referring to Knives Out in a Knives Out thread.

Whose reality? The first movie is certainly hyper-reality.

Edward Norton to Join Daniel Craig in ‘Knives Out’ Sequel
He joins fellow franchise newcomer Dave Bautista.
BY MIA GALUPPO

Edward Norton is sharpening his detective skills for Rian Johnson’s Knives Out sequel.

Norton is in talks for the follow-up to the popular whodunit, joining Dave Bautista in what will be a starry ensemble. Plot details are being kept under wraps but the follow-up will be another murder mystery anchored by Daniel Craig’s enigmatic southern detective Benoit Blanc.

Johnson will return to direct and is also producing with Ram Bergman under their T-Street banner. The movie is set to start shooting this summer in Greece.

Knives Out was released via Lionsgate in 2019, garnering an Oscar nomination and $311.4 million at the box office on a $40 million budget. In a massive $469 million deal, Netflix won the rights for two sequels and a readymade franchise.

Yeah, now we're really getting interesting.
I wonder if these big names are agreeing to reduced salaries upfront in exchange for points just so they can be in this property.

I would doubt it since the movie won't be in theaters (besides maybe a single theater in NYC and LA for Oscar eligibility) . If they are holding out for points they need better representation.
Seriously though, the massive payout that Netflix is paying might allow for a pretty well paid cast.

I wonder if Joseph Gordon-Levitt will get an actual role in one of the sequels.

Johnson should put Mark Ruffalo in the movie with Norton.

There wouldn’t be points since there’s no BO.

As much as I love Norton, it’s not like he’s someone who can really command a large salary.

this is shaping up. Ruffalo would be great. he's used him before. even Brody or anyone that he worked with. JGL would be perfect as well. they can all do quirky. whoever he gets they will work. look what he did with mostly B-C actors, couple A with first? it was a masterpiece...

As log as Rian keeps him on a short leash. Norton has a habit of hijacking and trying to hijack productions.

nah, this is like an Anderson movie which Norton has been a part of. they said in interviews nd written stuff they both loved working together and this is similar type quirky project in vein of Brother's Bloom, Looper or 1st KO. Norton will be fine. i think it was just the Hulk debacle.

Leslie Odom Jr. Joins Daniel Craig in ‘Knives Out 2’ (Exclusive)
He joins franchise newcomers Kathryn Hahn, Janelle Monáe, Dave Bautista and Edward Norton.

BY

MAY 18, 2021 12:00PM

After scoring an Oscar nomination for his role in One Night in Miami, Leslie Odom Jr. has booked his next role, joining the star-studded call sheet of Rian Johnson’ Knives Out sequel.

Odom Jr. will join fellow franchise newcomers Kathryn Hahn, Janelle Monáe, Dave Bautista and Edward Norton, as well as returning star Daniel Craig.

Plot details are being kept zipped up in a bodybag, but the follow-up is due to shoot this summer in Greece and will be another big-name ensemble murder mystery anchored by Craig’s enigmatic Southern detective Benoit Blanc.

Netflix, which took over the franchise from MRC and Lionsgate, had no comment on the casting.

Johnson wrote the script, will direct, and is also producing with Ram Bergman under their T-Street banner.

Knives Out was released via Lionsgate in 2019, taking in $311.4 million at the box office on a $40 million budget. Johnson, who earned a 2020 Oscar nomination for the Knives Out screenplay, told THR he began work on the script shortly after the first film was released.

In a massive $469 million deal, Netflix won the rights for two sequels and a readymade franchise. The only contingencies of the deal were that Craig must star in the sequels and that each must have at least the budget of the 2019 movie.

Odom Jr. earned two Oscar nominations— supporting actor and original song— for his role in Regina King’s directorial debut. Upcoming projects include New Line’s Sopranos prequel The Many Saints of Newark and John Ridley’s sci-fi feature Needle in a Timestack. He first broke out in the theatre world when he won a Tony for portraying Aaron Burr in Hamilton.

He is repped by CAA, Untitled, and Jackoway Austen.

I guess no shot of Stanfield coming back, huh? I like him for some reason. Got this cool, laid back thing. Reminds me of Mos Def as an actor.

I was thinking, the first one seemed to take folks by surprise, but now that the sequels will have everybody watching for leaks and rumors will they have to film multiple endings like Clue to keep the surprise?

They’re jokes about the amount of casting going on.

Yeah, the first one had a massive cast.

I'm trying to remember, was the first one a surprise at how well it was received? I wonder if RJ's reputation after TLJ affected it.
