Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach are sharing a bottle of red wine right now.
Todd Phillips is drinking alone.

If only Ricky Gervais would host the Oscars, but going without a host is the safe route. Since its already been shown they would go through all the past tweets of a potential host. You got to protect the precious feelings of everyone attending.

Lame lame lame! You can talk all about how long the show is, but it's the host that, for better or worse makes the show memorable. I barely remember anything about last year show except that Queen opening the show was pretty cool. They can maybe do Elton this year but really it's a host that ties everything together.

This must have been their plan all along. I never heard even the slightest rumbling of potential hosts this year.
It doesn’t really matter to me, although I’ve always liked the opening monologue. Last year’s Queen opening mostly fixed that, I’m assuming this year Elton and Taron can cover it this year (Although I would laugh if they ended up with a bunch of “Cats” jumping around and singing in the opening).
To me the most awkward part of having no host is the end of the show. They basically just had the last presenter stand there looking confused and was like, “Welp, I guess that’s it?”

JMO, of course, but I think a host keeps things moving along. Without one, it seems like there is no flow and everyone is looking at one another like what do we do now?

I think I should host.

Without a host, the show lacks personality. For better (Carson, Crystal, Degeneres) or worse (Hathaway/Franco, Goldberg, Letterman), the host sets the tone of the show.

Any "snub" (for lack of a better word) predictions for Monday's announcement?
I say Adam Sandler. In fact, I'm guessing no nominations at all for "Uncut Gems"

Yeah I don't feel like there's much hype for Uncut Gems anymore, sort of petered out.

Best Male and Female Director? That is insane to give separate technical awards by gender.

Kirsten Stewart actress of the decade?
Amazing how her and Robert Pattison are viewed entirely different by the film critic community due to their impressive post Twilight output, while your average film goer just see's them as those awful Twilight actors

I knew that BAFTA had a bit of a diversity problem and noted that there were no actors of color nominated (while nominating Margot Robbie twice in the same category). ButI just heard an amazing stat : Denzel Washington who has 9 Oscar nominations and 2 Oscars has never received a BAFTA nomination. They might in fact be a little bit racist.

The no host thing again is kinda weird. I almost feel like eventually awards shows like this could just die off. Not many casual people seem to really care anymore and now without a host it just comes off as a bit of a lame duck show. Like they’re not even trying anymore.

Mahershala Ali won Supporting Actor last year.
There were comments about Lupita Nyong'o being snubbed while Robbie got a double nom, but similarly US barely registered in the UK.

Re: 2020 Oscar Pre-award show discussion, nominees, etc.
They literally chose to give Margot Robbie a 2nd nomination for a defacto background cameo in the category of supporting actress over even nominating just 1 non caucasian female who had an acclaimed supporting performance in 2019. In addition to J Lo in a movie that did well in the UK they had the option to nominate Zhao Shuzhen or any of the Parasite females since they had seen those films enough to nominate them in other categories. I wonder if Margot Robbie had not made OUATIH if they would have nominated Anna Paquin for her cameo in The Irishman

Re: 2020 Oscar Pre-award show discussion, nominees, etc.
Happens a lot when a popular movie gets a ton of nominations, it becomes a "default pick". Not like they sit around a table to decide who gets these nom's.
Also, while the granny from Farewell would have been well suited, I found the acting in Parasite to be its worst aspect outside of Kang-ho Song.
