This seems to be one of those you either love it or hate it movies. For me personally, kind of like The Witch, I thought it was visually great and had good performances but had little to no impact on an emotional level.

I liked it enough (7 out of 10) but it was entirely driven by its absolutely outstanding visuals, atmosphere, and acting, with an entirely competent and somewhat perfunctory story, your basic betrayal/revenge plot, save for that fun little twist there.

Yeah, this was a good movie if you’ve never seen Vikings before - which is a majority of the people who are interested in this movie. But this is like a Cliff’s Notes version of the TV show.

The mystic stuff was enjoyable.
The take on toxic masculinity was good. Though I probably wouldn’t have understood it if Eggers didn’t talk about it on the WTF podcast.
It didn’t hit me emotionally.

Yeah, nothing special for me. Watched it and immediately forgot about it.

This is available on Prime now.
I watched it last night and ended up liking it overall. It started out a little rough and a bit overly Eggers-y. I almost shut it off around the time Ethan Hawke and Willem Dafoe were rolling around on the ground acting like dogs but I decided to stick with it and ended up enjoying it. The acting was good overall and felt exactly like what you’d expect from a Shakespearian Viking movie.
The action was good and although bloody, a lot of the violence took place off screen with only blood splatters popping into frame. I was actually expecting a lot worse. I also felt that, while the fight scenes were effective, they felt a bit too choreographed and it seemed obvious that the actors were obviously pulling their punches.
The visuals were amazing though. The movie LOOKED fantastic. I also ended up covering up with a throw blanket about halfway through the movie because just watching all those shirtless soaking wet dudes running around in the wind and snow was making me cold!
