The Rhythm Section (2020, D: Reed Morano) S: Blake Lively, Jude Law

Think of your heart as the drums, your breathing as the bass. Watch the official trailer for The Rhythm Section, from director Reed Morano. Starring Blake Lively, Jude Law and Sterling K. Brown. In theatres January 31. Blake Lively stars as Stephanie Patrick, an ordinary woman on a path of self-destruction after her family is tragically killed in a plane crash. When Stephanie discovers that the crash was not an accident, she enters a dark, complex world to seek revenge on those responsible and find her own redemption. Based on the novel by Mark Burnell, from director Reed Morano (“The Handmaid’s Tale”) and the producers of the James Bond film series, The Rhythm Section also stars Jude Law and Sterling K. Brown.

Looks like this was originally scheduled for release February 22nd of this year.

I'm pretty sick of seeing the trailer for this every time I go to the movies. I'm interested in seeing it for Lively and Reed Morano's direction, but I don't know... Curious to see what the reviews will be like.

I could have sworn I saw this trailer early last year. Was its release date bumped at some point?

For whatever reason, this trailer hasn’t been shown at any of the movies I’ve attended, but the poster has been up for a long time, and the image of the woman with the subtly placed gun has always intrigued me.

I too am tired of the constant trailers before every movie, mainly because they aren't giving much of an idea as to what it is about.

Seems like a more mainstream version of In The Fade.

I've seen the trailer many times as well, and my reaction has always been the thought that successfully pulling off an accent probably isn't in Lively's wheelhouse as a performer.

That was a good trailer. It really pushed the action element. Also, noticed they plugged that it's from the Producers of James Bond. I didn't realize until today that this is from Wilson and Broccoli as they bought the rights to the book.

I plan to see this Friday. But, I just watched Stuckmann's review and he was disappointed with it. He said a lot of it was boring. He gave it a C-

The early RT score isn't encouraging.

I doubt the film will be helped by the terrible title. As soon as I saw the trailer I thought to myself, "That title must be the name of a book, otherwise...". And then I found out it was a book series. The trailers/TV spots aren't bad, though I have a little trouble accepting Blake Lively as the lead actor in this type of film.

You mean it's not a documentary about a jazz band?

Atlanta Rhythm Section? At least that's what I thought when I saw the title...

I saw this last night.... eh. Pretty forgettable. Nothing really suspenseful or exciting about it. A lot of dumb logical things.
Blake is good in the role. There are two decent sequences. I really liked how they did the car chase. But this is most definitely not an action movie at all. Beyond that... not much else to say. Rental at best.

Serious question... what's the significance of the title?

The film’s title refers to a firearms calming technique: your heart is the drums; your breathing is the bass.

Re: The Rhythm Section (2020, D: Reed Morano) S: Blake Lively, Jude Law

I just got back from it. I can't recommend it either. The 1st hour is pretty boring and I nodded off a few times. As dex says, nothing particularly exciting except maybe a couple of sequences. And they a good job making Blake Lively unlikable and unattractive. Horrible wigs and clothes. I'll give her one thing that she did handle some of the hand to hand combat scenes pretty well, especially the bus sequence. Sterling K. Brown and Blake have absolutely no chemistry. Personally I'm not a fan of them using American actors to play European characters. The accent she had didn't work for me.

Re: The Rhythm Section (2020, D: Reed Morano) S: Blake Lively, Jude Law

Maybe it made more sense in the book, but the very beginning of the movie was inexplicable...

Spoiler:
I'm not sure exactly why the reporter felt the need to loop the junkie hooker into the worldwide international espionage plot, but given that her predictable poor decision making immediately got him killed indicates it was a bad call

But it's not like the movie made much sense after that either.

Completely agree. What was the endgame there? What did she really have to offer to his story?

well, at least this broke a record...lowest per theater take for a movie opening in more than 3000 theaters ever...

Saw this friday night. It was a combo of boring and confusing. The trailer was much better than the actual movie.
It did have a really well filmed/edited car chase.

Decent enough thriller that's not terribly memorable but I did like Blake Lively in the lead and some of the action/stunts were alright, including the car chase sequence done in a one-shot like take. More or less another time-waster but maybe in a couple of years, willing to revisit. ***/*****

I compared it to Extraction which I saw it last week and the car chase was better in that movie.

Overall the movie was slow and boring.

Anna was the better and more entertaining female assassin movie
