Tank Girl - remake from Margot Robbie's production company

Tank Girl Reboot Is Happening with Margot Robbie
https://movieweb.com/tank-girl-movie...margot-robbie/

It looks like Margot Robbie is getting further into the world of comic book movies. The actress is reportedly developing a Tank Girl Reboot under her LuckyChap banner. Robbie is currently in the middle of some Birds of Preyreshoots and will more than likely officially join the cast of James Gunn's The Suicide Squad at any moment now, so she is keeping very busy. It's been 24 years since the first Tank Girl adaptation hit theaters and it appears Robbie believes that it's time for a new spin.

Lori Petty starred in the first Tank Girl movie in 1995. However, the movie was not a box office success and received mainly negative reviews. Over the years, the movie, much like the original comic, has gained cult status. Tank Girl co-creator Alan Martin was the one to deliver the news about Margot Robbie developing a possible reboot. He had this to say.

"Just heard that Margot Robbie's company have optioned rights from MGM to make a new Tank Girl movie - now several months into development. We haven't been contacted by any of the parties involved with the project, so not sure if there will be any input from the original creators."
Tank Girl was created by Alan Martin and Jamie Hewlett and the comics tell the story of Rebecca Buck, a woman who drives and lives in a tank. The comics were originally published in Deadline Magazine. The visual aesthetic of the original comics takes inspiration from a punk rock style and has been widely praised. The feminist undertones and gritty subject material have also been praised over the years by fans and critics.

It's unclear if Margot Robbie will be starring in a potential Tank Girl reboot. Her LuckyChap banner has produced I, Tonya, Terminal, Dreamland, and the upcoming Birds of Prey. All of the aforementioned movies star Robbie, so it seems like a safe bet that she'll be taking on the lead role. The actress has been very busy over the last few years and she doesn't show any signs of slowing down at the moment. It's unclear if and when production will begin on the reboot.

It will be interesting to see how a Tank Girl reboot is looked at 24 years after the original hit theaters. The cult audience for the first adaptation has only continued to grow over the years and the franchise has a protective fan base. With that being said, Margot Robbie and LuckyChap may be the right ones to take on the task. Let's just hope they consult with Alan Martin and Jamie Hewlett to make sure they get everything as close to the original feel of the comics as possible. For now, we'll just have to wait and see what happens with the Tank Girl reboot. You can read the reboot announcement below, thanks to Alan Martin's Twitter account.

I like it. It's not good, but it is fun.
It's currently available on TubiTV for free, maybe elsewhere.
At DragonCon a couple years ago, my then-girlfriend and I went as Tank Girl and Kesslee. There were a couple other TGs, but I didn't see any other Kesslees.
I should watch it again, and if they remake/retell it, I'll probably watch that too.

You like it and you find it fun. Such qualities fall under the realm of "good". Perhaps the correct word is cheesy. :p

Thanks for the TubiTV source. I'll see if I can find it there and give it a view on my phone. :D

The Petty movie was a mildly fun one-time watch for me.
I tried it recently and it just hasn't aged well.
Robbie would make a great Tank Girl.

Re: Tank Girl - remake from Margot Robbie's production company

After working together on Dreamland, Margot Robbie has tapped Miles Joris-Peyrafitte to direct a Tank Girl movie that she’ll produce via her LuckyChap Entertainment banner, Collider has exclusively learned.

On Monday, Alan Martin, who co-created Tank Girl with Jamie Hewlett back in the late ’80s, tweeted that Robbie’s production company, LuckyChap Entertainment, had optioned the rights to his comic, which is a cult favorite.

It’s my understanding that the project will be developed as a starring vehicle for Robbie, who will produce with her LuckyChap partners Tom Ackerley and Josey McNamara. The project, however, is in early development, as the producers are still waiting for a script, and Robbie won’t commit to star until she reads it.

“Just heard that Margot Robbie’s company have optioned rights from MGM to make a new Tank Girl movie – now several months into development. We haven’t been contacted by any of the parties involved with the project, so not sure if there will be any input from the original creators.” A representative for MGM did not respond to a request for comment.

Created in 1988, Tank Girl follows a tank operator with a mostly-shaved head who travels around a post-apocalyptic hellscape doing odd jobs and getting into trouble. From a visual standpoint, the character couldn’t be more different than Robbie’s Harley Quinn, though the characters certainly share a similar punk-rock attitude and knack for creating chaos.

Sources say the film may find Tank Girl teaming with a fellow outlaw named Jet Girl and a group of rebels to rise up and destroy a tyrannical government that has seized control of the already scarce water supply.

Tank Girl was previously turned into a 1995 film starring Lori Petty and directed by Rachel Talalay, one of several female directors who paved the way in the action genre and, regardless of how you feel about Tank Girl, deserves more credit for being a trailblazer.

Joris-Peyrafitte made his directorial debut with the 2016 indie drama As You Are starring Amandla Stenberg and Charlie Heaton before going on to direct the well-reviewed indie Dreamland, which Robbie produced and starred in alongside Travis Fimmel and Garrett Hedlund. The filmmaker recently signed on to write and direct The Hunter & the Fox for Annapurna, and that project has been described as an “elevated Kubrickian-type horror-thriller.”

Robbie recently starred in Quentin Tarantino‘s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, and she next stars in the Fox News drama Bombshell, as well as Cathy Yan’s Birds of Prey movie. She’ll soon begin filming James Gunn’s Suicide Squad sequel, and the Oscar-nominated actress is also a producer on the Carey Mulligan thriller Promising Young Woman, which does indeed sound promising.

Joris-Peyrafitte is represented by WME, Grandview, and Hansen, Jacobson, Teller, while Robbie is repped by CAA, Management 360, Aran Michael Management and Jackoway Austen.
