Re: Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021, D: Watts) - S: Tom Holland

I guess I lucked out - I got tickets for Thursday night, no issues. And I didn't buy mine until 11am this morning. My local AMC doesn't see a lot of foot traffic these days. I saw Ghostbusters opening day with about six other people. I'm guessing less than two dozen for Spidey.

Here’s my showing at Harkins at 3pm on the 16th. It’s about 98% sold out. This Harkins Theatre is in a mall so there is a lot of traffic.

I wonder if theaters will add early Sat/Sun shows? I loved seeing IW and Endgame at 8am.

So I guess movie theaters aren't doing the "social distancing" thing and selling to full capacity?

I cringe at the thought of sitting in a reserved seat while the person behind me coughs up a lung...

Where have you been? They killed capped seating early in the summer. But you do have to wear masks in most theaters.

That’s why I sit by the handicap seats. Usually they stay empty and nobody will be by me.

There hasn't been one documented instance of theatres being a spreader event. But you just go ahead and keep hiding under your bed.

By the time this comes out, maybe LA county will rescind the need to show proof of vaccination?

I saw GB Afterlife at the AMC Sunset 5 last Wednesday and it was the first time any establishment asked to see proof of vax. They still require you to be masked unless you're eating/drinking. This is also why I chose the AMC Prime showing as it's the larger seats that are spaced out a bit more.

If it makes you feel any better, I was never a big fan of the theater experience even before COVID-19.

I don't like crowded theaters, and when I went to a movie, it was either a matinee or a late weeknight showing. Even at ~20% capacity, there are enough assholes to spoil the experience dicking around with their phones, talking, or getting up every five minutes.

And assigned seats make it even worse when some six and a half foot tall asshole in a giant cowboy hat sits in front of you, or there are two middle-aged hags who think a movie is the perfect place to have a two hour bitch-fest about their kids.

I also don't like to have anyone in either seat next to me, even when it's my wife.

Movies look better on my own giant tv in my own home than they do in the theater, anyway, so I'll probably never set foot in a movie theater again.

Apparently this is still in post production with VFX. And the official run time is 150 minutes.

isn't that a chicken vs egg situation though? How can there be a spreader case at a theater if people are still largely avoiding theaters?

Multiple $150+ million earning movies in the last couple of months would suggest at least a few people are back at theaters.

I don't think they stopped tracking COVID spread around when the vaccines came out, so there wouldn't have been any documented case of a movie theater being a super spreader, nor will there be. It's all just basic community spread now.

Apparently, the full synopsis has leaked, so be aware of spoilers. Also, remember this drops, a few days earlier in the UK than in the US.

It sounds like it will be Monday, December 13, at 10:30 pm PST after the premiere. Apparently, for junkets, the press has only been shown 40 mins of the film.
