Caught this yesterday. Enjoyable, but like everyone else has said, check your brain at the door or you will go nuts. Johnson and Statham have undeniable chemistry, so they need to continue with these two characters. I got the impression from this that Universal is trying to turn FATF into its big shared universe franchise. I'm also pretty sure that the head of ETEAN (whatever it is) is either Cipher or maybe Hobbs' daughters' baby mother. I also think that at some point they need to bring back Han .

As much as I like the character, they should never bring back Han.
It seems they haven't settled on it yet either.
Leitch:
A rumor circulated that Keanu had a secret role in Hobbs & Shaw. Do you think somebody heard that one of your former actors had a surprise role and they just guessed the wrong star?
Actually, no. It all stemmed from the fact that we had talked to Keanu early on. It was even before where we ended up with this draft. I had been talking to Keanu periodically through the shooting of it all and looking for opportunities of where it could be. I also wanted to make sure that it was enough — a real promise for something legitimate in the future — and wasn’t just a stunt casting role. We started to populate the movie with all these other personalities, and I just didn’t really think that we needed it, although I would’ve loved it. We even talked in post, and I showed him a rough cut of the movie. Then, we had conversations about “is there something here?” We came to the conclusion of “let’s put a pin in it.” I’m all for finding opportunities, but I also didn't want to force anything. The mystery at the end of the movie where the Eteon director is nameless and faceless seems perfect for our ending because we had so much story we’ve already told. The backstory with Brixton and Shaw, Hobbs reconnecting with Jonah (Cliff Curtis), Shaw reconnecting with Hattie, Locke’s relationship with Hobbs…Dinkley. There was just so much stuff, and we still had to resolve all the family threads. The mystery of what Eteon is and where it’s gonna go was left where it needed to be.
The mysterious Eteon director is credited as Champ Nightengale, which is a pseudonym that Ryan Reynolds used for a fake Amazon review of his own gin brand. All joking aside, has the identity of Eteon’s mystery director truly been finalized yet?
I’ll be honest: there’s no final decision. I think we wanted to leave it open-ended. We have a lot of strong, creative ideas that are circling between Chris Morgan, the producers and myself. But, again, we wanted to give ourselves opportunity because it’s a first time out. If this was Fast Five, you’ve already built your world, and it’s good to have that cliff-hanger to get into the next one. For us, we wanted to anchor our characters in two defined worlds, show the potential of this world and set it loose into the theatrical world to see how people respond. Then, we’ll react accordingly and say, “Hey, this is what the next movie should be.” We want this thing to live on for a while, and we want these characters to have many adventures. We just felt it was too early to say, “Here’s our next adventure.”

Tyrese decides once again to be a dick and diss this movie and diss The Rock
And he deleted the post shortly afterwards, this was re-posted by someone else.
Probably his manager or the studio forced him to delete it. What a fucking loser and coward.
Universal should just kill off Roman from the series.

I went and saw it again today. Wanted to escape the heat here in California.
Anyone who saw it knows the name of the song that played during the London chase sequence early in the movie?
If they do get a sequel I think it's pretty obvious that Locke will play a bigger part.

Johnson is a professional. He's busy promoting the movie in China right now with Statham. He doesn't have time to deal with stupid shit like this and stupid former co-stars.

I like Dwayne - he seems like a great guy - but he's also very protective of his stardom. Let's not forget he nixed a cameo in the first Shazam! film simply because he felt that he should be the star of his own movie (Black Adam) first. He doesn't like to play second fiddle in a film.

Im a pretty big fan of the series, but felt this had too much padding in terms of time that added nothing. The action was fun, but the banter between Statham and Johnson is what I came for and I felt there could have been more.
Overall, it ranks middle of the pack in the series for me (definitely behind 5, 8, and 6; not sure if I'd say it's better than 1 though).

Saw this today... a lot of fun. Will share more thoughts later but what was the final end credit scene? The guy coming to clean the theater told us there wasn't one the little fucker...so we left.

This is exactly how I felt about this one, thought it was just ok. I've generally liked the F&F franchise, but this one is towards the bottom for me.

Saw this earlier today.
Entertaining but felt it was about 30-minutes too long.
Loved Idris Elba as a villain, even though he wasn't given too much to chew on.

Oh man, what a freaking blast. They finally managed to bring the fun back to the F&F franchise. Johnson and Statham are brilliant together. Kirby was a great add to the cast. Action was great, humor was amazing and overall it was just a blast. The Reynolds and Hart cameos were great.
I really only have a couple complaints. One is the marketing department packing too much into trailers. That's partially on me for watching them all, but studios really need to pull back on revealing so much. The only real complaint for the flick from me is the soundtrack. I'm a rock guy and wouldn't listen to any of the tunes out of this series outside the films, but in the moment they work. I love the F&F soundtracks as they compliment the movies quite well. Songs/tracks are well chosen and fit the scenes they play during. The songs chosen here were all lacking the same punch, and/or just felt out of place. A couple were a little too on-the-nose.
Lastly, I hope they don't get too cutesy with the big bad secret villain. No ties to current characters. Make it someone new. Having it be someone's villain daddy or long lost brother/sister/cousin will be ridiculous.
Opposite for me. That was a very breezy 2.25 hour movie.
That last battle though. Starts in the dark pre-dawn hours then immediately cuts to broad daylight. I turned to my son and said "Wasn't it just dark?" He said "Maybe there's been a time cut and they've been fighting for a while?". Then, as on cue, Kirby looks at her arm device and it shows that under 9 minutes have elapsed. Then after they force Idris Elba to the ground and the sky is dark and it's a full-blown thunderstorm? Then they cut back and the guys back at the garage are still in sunny daylight? I'm no continuity Nazi, but that was pretty fucked up.
That was weird. Along those lines, they kinda glossed over the fact that even with Hart's hookup, a flight from London to Hawaii is probably a good 20 hours. I lost track of Hattie's timer, but was that factored in?

Loved it. Good, turn-off-your-brain summertime fare. Vanessa Kirby steals the show. I'd love to see a team-up between her and Ilsa Faust.

Sequel talk at $600m? If we were discussing Spider-man, $600m would be a abject failure of the highest order and worth selling out to Disney.
