Favorite Superhero portrayal (non Chris Reeve edition)

So with the Endgame being the penultimate ending of the Marvel cinematic universe, I thought it would be fun to try this one more time. Christopher Reeve as Superman ran away with it last time, so just to try and even it up I figured it would be fun to see who wins now. In order to not have 70 options, we will just limit them to recent portrayals in major franchises. Personally I can't decide between Robert Downey Jr or Hugh Jackman but I would probably give a slight edge to Jackman just because he is so much more different than Wolverine in the comics, yet he made it his own.

I love Cavill as Superman but my vote goes to Chris Evans as Captain America.

I don't know if it's my favorite since I'm not a huge Iron Man fan, but Downey Jr. as Iron Man pretty much started the cinematic universe so I'll go with that.

Polls like this are always hard because there are so many choices now days. I liked Bale a lot in the Nolan trilogy. Big fan of Downey Jr., Evans, and Hemsworth in their respective parts.

Hemsworth and Downey were both very entertaining and Jackman was iconic, but Evans is the one who really embodies the persona of a hero. I buy him 100% in the role. He's the true heir to Reeves.

I didn't realize anyone loved those Fantastic Four movies so much, but I guess there are fans of everything.

I don't remember much from the F4 movies, but I have the impression that even there Evans completed the role quite well. I don't have any idea how close it was to the comics though.

Evans as Captain America probably gets my vote.

This but I also loved Tobey Maguire as Spider-Man in the first two of those. Not really an all encompassing
poll.

He and Chiklis were the only things they got right (outside of the terrible body suit for Thing).

It's a toss up between 5. Those that were meant to be in their roles.... RDJ, Stewart and Reynolds. And those that made it their own... Evans and Jackman

Because an all-encompassing poll would be too hard. Heck between Batman, Superman and Spiderman you have 11 people who have played three roles, so unless we want 30 options an all encompassing poll is too hard.

I voted Hugh Jackman. Even in the shitty X-Films he was still a stand out. Also, Logan is the second best comic book film behind Watchmen from the last 20 years.

I’m sure he has no chance of winning this poll but we gotta give props to Mamoa for turning the lamest superhero into a badass.

Re: Favorite Superhero portrayal (non Chris Reeve edition)

i went with RDJ. he made the first MCU and i love it to this day. he always embodies the character like no other could. Evans and Hemsworth are good, but a little wooden to me. hell all of MCU pretty spot on. some DC good ones, but never in league as Marvel. but i would also make a strong case for Holland as SM who as i mentioned in another thread just embodies who SM is as a adolescent, growing into his extra normal powers. plus, he definitely looks like he is having the most fun in every MCU he's been in...

Re: Favorite Superhero portrayal (non Chris Reeve edition)

For longevity in playing a character Jackman is good. He also definitely gave the role his all each time he played the character (even in the crappy films). That said though I can’t go with him. Simply for the fact that I don’t think the original X-Men trilogy holds up and X-Men Origins: Wolverine is pretty bad. I actually think he got better in the later films though. Days of Future Past while not my favorite film is a good performance and Logan is one of the best comic book films ever made.

This is tough, since Marvel really knocked it out of the park with most of their castings. I think I'd have to go Hugh Jackman, though. He pretty much is the embodiment of what I think Wolverine is.

It kind of sucks for Jackman, I agree he gave it his all in each of his performances but with the exception of X2, Wolverine, and Logan, the X-Men movies have all mostly been a disappointment for me. I haven’t even bothered watching the last two.

Don’t you have to be in at least one good movie as that character to qualify?

1. Jackman as Wolverine
2. Gadot as Wonder Woman
3. Maguire as Spider-man

Honorable mentions: Bale as Batman, Evans as Cap and Pratt as Star Lord.

Honorable mention 2: Brandon Lee as the Crow (not technically a superhero though)

I remember both friends of mine who were into comics and had read Watchmen audibly gasp when I told them how terrific I thought the movie was. I think the movie has way more highlights than cheesy bits, so I hold it in high standings.

Slightly off-topic, but ten years later, I still remember Richard Roeper in his review referring to Malin Akerman as "one of the worst actresses in the world", which seems so extreme, I honestly wondered if he was resentful because he hit on her at a party or something and she turned him down. Is her performance really as terrible as he describes?
