Looks good to me 🤷🏻‍♂️ And there is absolutely no way this will bomb. Zero chance.

The dry for wet still makes it look extremely fake...

The animated is one of my all-time favs. This looked really off from the trailer. It just didn’t look good.

I would say it looks worse, which is quite surprising, as I'd assume it'd look about the same if not better.

Aquaman looked stunning compared to this trailer.

Aquaman was unwatchable. It was like a two hour trailer or sizzle reel. Easily one of the worst movies I've ever seen. Even worse than Suckerpunch, which at least had some eye candy.

I was referring to the quality of the visual effects.

I had no interest in this until the last trailer, now I'm all in.

No way this looks anywhere near as good as Avatar. This definitely continues the tradition of the Disney CGIness. I really don't know what it is but the last 10 or so years the way they do CGI outside of animation, there's just something so bland about it. Yet so overwhelming. So fake. Like a mishmash of color and shapes. I don't know it's really hard to describe. It's like the opposite of their animation where just the slightest tilt of Wall-E's eyes can convey a lot of emotion. It's like they have to go with the more is more approach to CGI.

Javier Bardem looked terrible as King Triton. Total miscast IMO. Not convincing at all as Halle Bailey's father. No chemistry and I feel like their relationship is central to the whole story. I'm not even going to comment on Melissa McCarthy. But this is all my rantings on a 2 minute trailer. I'm sure I'll be spending a good chunk of change to take the family to see it. Hopefully I'll be wrong and it'll be great. Hopefully at least the kids will like it.

I don't think kids are that worried about photo realistic CGI.

Did I know the giant squid was fake in 20,000 Leagues? Yep. Didn't care. Was still cool and scary to this kid.

Yep. One of the biggest films ever had an obviously fake big ass SHARK. We all bought it was real and still do to this day...

The difference, however, is that the shark in Jaws and the squid in 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea were convincing for the time they were released. The visual effects in this remake aren't convincing now.

Was that in response to me? I didn't mean to imply that the CGI had anything to do with the kids not liking it. Sometimes, surprisingly, they just have good taste. I was really surprised that my daughter didn't like the Lion King remake at all. She didn't see what the point of it was. And she was 7 at the time. And I never try to show any negative thoughts I have about a movie with them. If they like it then that's great.

...except for the Rescue Rangers. That movie was utter shit.

Your kid hated The Lion King remake? She has excellent taste. . But I agree that (creative) pointlessness is a problem with these remakes. Disney has already put their own unique spin on these classic tales. Aside from being live action, these remakes tend to have little to make them stand out. Mulan is the only one I recall that was a true departure from the animated counterpart, even if the broad strokes were understandably the same.

tanman hated Chip and Dale since it strayed too far from the series and didn't work for them. For many of the rest of us, it was surprisingly solid.

Yes, it's good, give it a shot.

The comment about kids wanting to see this is key. Little girls will want to see this and mothers who grew up with the original will take them and it will do huge opening weekend numbers. How they respond and how well it persists remains to be seen.
